Goodbye NIN...thanks for the memories, Trent.

02/16/09 9:00 PM

fuck...

02/16/09 9:00 PM

Well I hope he's really not near the end of the line, but the man deserves whatever break he wishes. 20 years, NIN has been a major part of my life for 17 or so of those 20, and I hope it's not over, but could never thank him enough for the music he's brought so many of us.

02/16/09 9:02 PM

Wow, simultaneously the best and worst news I've heard so far this year.
NIN + Jane's Addiction = Yay!

Goodbye NIN = Booo.

Thanks for all you do Trent. It's been a fantastic ride.

02/16/09 9:02 PM

Wow, I never thought I would see one of my favorite bands break up. But we can't all get what we want.

Trent, I know you (and probably the rest of the band too) need this break, but I hope that it isn't forever. I will be waiting to hear more from you, musically or otherwise.

And for the record, there is nothing, absolutely NOTHING that will be stopping me from going to a show on this tour. Please consider a WI/IL show. I always said that I would be able to die happy after seeing NIN live, and now that this is my last chance I NEED to go.

02/16/09 9:02 PM

sad smiley Sad, but you have been touring your ass off and been putting out great records, so I understand if you need a break. I hope you enjoy your break, but DAMN the music world won't be the same without you!!! I hope to make it to TONS of your shows in the next few months and I will enjoy them 1000% because it may be the last time. Thanks for everything you've done for your fans!

02/16/09 9:05 PM

Enjoy these past few years.

Ok, seriously- you people are fucking insane. Seriously. You make god damn TOOL fans look sane by comparison.

At the end of the day, NIN is just a band. Or a musician. Or an artist. Or whatever the hell you want to call it/him/them. That's it. Trent is going bye-bye for a few months, years, decades, whatever, and chances are he'll be back.

But even if he's not- CHILL THE FUCK OUT. You sound like a bunch of whiney cunts. Look, it's ok to be bummed out. It's ok to talk about it. And it's ok to be upset- within reason.

But the way some of you are carrying on, like Trent is some almightly savior of all that is good and holy- Jesus H. on a Pogo Stick. If you're anywhere north of the age of 15, you should seriously be ashamed of yourselves. RELAX. IT'S JUST A BAND. LIFE WILL GO ON, I PROMISE.

"Oh GOD Trent, how will we ever go on without you???" How about going out on a date? How about getting a fucking hobbie (besides obsessing over NIN lyrics and outside of the internet). Jesus, you're ADULTS, for Christ's sake- start ACTING LIKE IT.

No one is going to die here. The world will not stop spinning on its axis. And, as hard as it is to believe, PRACTICALLY NO ONE ON THIS PLANET WILL GIVE A SHIT. Most people don't even know how Nine Inch Nails ARE, let alone care. And for those of us that do? Well, it's a bummer. But life goes on. At the end of the day, it's JUST MUSIC, people. No one came along and stripped you of your vital organs. You will be ok. Just breathe. Sit down. Chill out. It. Will. Be. Ok.

02/16/09 10:05 PM

I can't think of many things in my life that gave me that special childlike fascination than being a fan of Nine Inch Nails. Not only was the music strangely addictive and compelling, but it came in a finicky and elaborate package where everything was in its place and there were suprises in store waiting to be uncovered. Not only did you get music that you could reach in and get your hands dirty with, but you could immerse yourself in a community teeming with energy both exciting and odd. Going to the shows and seeing thousands of people as enchanted as I and being able to have the opportunity to see those concerts are amazing memorable experiences I'll never forget. The Philly show will always top the list, there was this amazing atmosphere not only coming from the band and the set, but the sea of bodies rocking and swaying in unison to the torso thumping beats. And the passion was the killer. The passion and love for it all, impeccible taste, every bit was always there and deeply inspiring to myself. A life went into Nine Inch Nails, it was all or nothing, nothing but the best. The enormous collection of records took so much dedication I doubt most people possess half the drive to go for as long as twenty years. I coulnd't imagine the weight on those shoulders.

Everyone deserves to live the life they always dreamed and to attain every aspiration of their's heart's deepest desires. While I am sure Nine Inch Nails adores what they do and are so honored to be able to create music and perform for their fans, all of them deserve to have a personal life and choose to persue other ventures if they feel it's time. We are supporters and spectators, not obligations that need to be fulfilled, where's the fun in the art then, or the spontineity if performers become chained to their fanbase. These are human beings, not robots or super heroes.

Every person deserves to have the love of their life, their dreamhouse with their children(optional) and pets of choice(optional). Lazy Sundays, bar b ques with the family, bullshitting with friends on your couch all day; imagine all of the wonderful things we take for granted that people on a tour get only so often, or the obligation of being known as a rock star and celebrity. It's nice to be able to take off that hat and have the spotlight off of you for awhile. It takes courage to bow out of the spotlight and leave on a highnote however long the haitus temporary or permanently. Better than a long slow string of "meh" work forced from burnout, or affecting one's health from the enormous physical strain. I would rather know that Trent and Nine Inch Nails were truly living rather than doing. I have always had great respect for the decisions coming from the NIN camp because they have their heads on their shoulders. If this particular project has run it's course, it's done. All artists just know when something is complete.

I'm looking forward to catching a show!

So in other words, Trent is going to do a Manson? Leave music because he thinks the music industry is shit, and leave us with the shit and no better alternative, only to make a film project that may or may not ever come to fruitation, possibly get married and then divorced and then come back to the music scene saying he made a mistake leaving it and getting back to the self hating depressing music he started with.

Well, I hope this show doesn't disappoint me like the With Teeth shows did. Better enjoy them while I can and then move onto something bigger and better.

Pretty shitty news about ending NIN "temporarily"

dude are u fucking for real?

Wow...this is kind of a hard pill to swallow. Well thanks Trent for everything you've done and I hope you find happiness in whatever you decide to do from now on. I didn't really start getting into NIN until 2005 but I'm glad to have at least seen you once live (hopefully on this '09 tour you'll stop in Michigan or Ohio) and I'll get to see NIN one last time this year. Good luck and don't forget about us fans completely. winking smiley

02/16/09 9:09 PM

Been a fan for over ten years, take it easy.

I might not see nin live this year because my family is expanding in May but thanks for all you have done for me musically.

Peace Trent and gang!

02/16/09 9:09 PM

He never said anything about music being shit.

What the fuck is that guy smoking?

02/16/09 9:10 PM

I wish he hadn't teased Year Zero 2 so much if he didn't intend on delivering it. Sorry but some of us were still counting on it as YZ left much to be desired. I enjoyed the Slip and Ghosts but a conclusion to the YZ story would've been fitting. Better to not say anything at all if he was planning on disappearing like this.

those fuckers rocked their asses off for years... Trent deserves a break/retirement... shit thats crazy... NIN gone...

02/16/09 9:13 PM

Really... really weird feeling to be so sad and happy at the same time. :/

However -
Thank you for everything.

Guess that's all I have to say right now... confused smiley

02/16/09 9:13 PM

Trent has given us music from deep inside himself. Never any superficial shit. He even gave us [i]The Slip[i] (hmm, Freud anyone.) What more can we ask from him? He deserves peace.
I hope it isn't really goodbye, just Au Revoir.
Thank you Trent.

Dude, you haven't been a NIN fan long, have you?

02/16/09 9:15 PM

Have a nice break, Trent. Hopefully you'll keep your blog and Twitter updated as you take a much needed vacation. You'll be back tongue sticking out smiley

02/16/09 9:15 PM

I don't get it. Many of you guys are freakin crazy. Most big bands take a few years off in between albums. Depeche Mode have been going for 30 years and their last album/tour was 2005/2006. It is now 2009 and we are ramping up for a huge tour and album. That's like 3 years of waiting! That's normal! Same with U2 etc etc.

MOST bands do that. NIN will be back. He said "for a while" and I mean what part of that phrase do those predicting doom, not see?

*shakes head*
