Now I'm sad.
Especially after that reporter who talked about NIN sharing a space with Britney Spears said that NIN would outlast her.

Oh well. I mean, if Trent still spits something out for us every once in a while, even if it's not NIN, it will still be fabulous, undoubtedly. Although I was hoping for a Year Zero 2... sad smiley

02/16/09 10:53 PM

I just wanna thank Trent for everything he has given to us, beautiful music, great deluxe packages, free dvd material, really close interaction with him and everything else... if this goodbye means "forever", I hope you visit us at least one last time here in Mexico, but if it is a temporary thing .... i still would love to see you here again....
Please do come back to MEXICO!

Thanks again and good luck in whatever you do...

02/16/09 10:55 PM

please include israel in this last world tour. your previous show was one of the best.

02/16/09 10:55 PM

You can't stop now Mr Reznor. You're just beginning. You can't just leave your fans now, not just after you broke all the rules for us. I've never even seen any of your shows damn you. But well, I'm sure we'll feel your presence every once in a while. And you very much deserve this break. I just hope I can get a US Visa to watch you even once. You've been good to your fans and thank you very much for giving us something to look forward to all these years.

P.S.

At least make an album with Tori Amos. Wouldn't that be nice.

02/16/09 10:55 PM

I'm seriously stunned and bummed all at the same time. For the past 7 years NIN has been nothing but my rock and my anchor. I'm not saying that's going to stop..but blah..

In a way, I'm seriously pissed off at the record companies for this latest NIN news. Reznor has given nothing but greatness to the world thru his music and his art. The money hungry pigs at Interscope and Universal have beaten him down over the years to where Reznor has lost his drive his inspiration to keep going. When he is inspired, the line blurs.."Isn't anyone stopping me?" It's all in his lyrics.

The bastards at Interscope have killed the true artists and feed the shitty-ass fuckers like Reznor said, "corporate rock sucks"

What I'm saying here is that I don't want to see NIN go away. 20 years of greatness can only lead us to more greatness. Please Reznor, don't give up. Save us from the shit on the radio..

I look forward to seeing you again on tour..

02/16/09 10:56 PM

Trent
You'd better fucking come back to L.A.. I was pissed off beyond fucking belief when I had to miss the show in september.
Please!

02/16/09 10:57 PM

Wow, this is great news for an amazing tour, but the fact that this may be it for a while is sad...very sad!!!

02/16/09 10:57 PM

oh no!

02/16/09 10:57 PM

No te vayas Trent, por favor. Por lo menos no para siempre. POR FAVOR POR FAVOR, no te olvides de Mexico.

02/16/09 10:57 PM

I got to see NIN twice last year and i cant wait to see them again, So TR stop in Texas at least two more times and i get tickets to both. Sad to see that REAL MUSIC is dying. But hey FUCK IT this music is never gonna die to me. When i have kids I'll make sure that NIN is in their Fuckin Ipods!!!!!

02/16/09 11:06 PM

Okay, translation

"NIN needs ti disappear for awhile" - AWHILE. NOT FOREVER. Therefore, he's probably taking an extended break. God knows he needs it.

And PLEASE don't turn this thread into another curtain call... Though I'm probably WAY too late in asking this...

02/17/09 12:07 AM

This is my favorite band, as I'm sure it is for a lot of people here. So to tell people who feel extremely sad about this to "get a life" is a bit harsh. Some of my favorite memories - some of the BEST - are the times I have seen a NIN show or listened to a NIN record. Again, I'm sure a lot of us here feel the same. Why else would we be here?

This man greatly influenced my life, in many ways, and I hate to get fucking sentimental here but letting go of that feeling of "there's more to look forward to" in that avenue of my life isn't something I take lightly. So I guess I need to get a fucking life then?
Fuck that.

So strange to think it could end, though I doubt it will for quite awhile.
I'm holding on to those words "for awhile" because I really don't think it's over for good, not yet.winking smiley

The last show of this tour is going to be absolute madness - it better be a big fucking venue.

02/16/09 11:11 PM

Yeah, thanks for letting the 12/7 Portland, OR show be one of the 3 immortalized in 170GB of HD footage plus in thousands of amateur documentations!

02/16/09 11:11 PM

People, take the Angie bashing to the shitlist!

02/16/09 11:12 PM

It may be selfish of me, but I am honestly on the verge of tears over this. I've never in my life found any music that even compares to NIN. I enjoy other bands, but I feel NIN. To me there is music and then there is Nine Inch Nails. I don't think I'm alone there. We all felt the finality of the Lights In The Sky tour, and secretly we knew this day was coming. Maybe NIN will return, but I doubt it will. I can't blame Trent for doing what makes him happy, but he and his music will be greatly missed. A simple thanks for all the beautiful art he's created just doesn't seem enough but I guess it'll have to do.

really?? i was actually wondering when this would happen. all in all, whatever you do, i hope it makes you happy.

02/16/09 11:22 PM

So long...and thanks for all the music. smiling smiley

Thanks for everything Trent, you've been an incredible influence on a sickening amount of people, myself included.

Cheers.

02/16/09 11:22 PM

Whether this is adios for good or not, I think this outpouring of gratitude is more than appropriate. Who knows what the future holds, and this is a pretty good indicator that one of the few real revolutionaries of the age is hanging it up for at least a considerable amount of time. I'd like to add my thanks to the mountain.

Thanks for sharing the most effective communication of emotion I've ever experienced. NIN has not only given me countless hours of simple musical enjoyment, but encouraged me to investigate art at a deeper level and helped inspire and frame my career in teaching.

Thanks for being honest, generous, and principled. You have set an almost impossibly high bar for others to reach towards, not only musically, but visually through graphic presentation and performance, socially through the community that you have brought together, and philosophically through questioning the nature of entitlement and ownership.

Enjoy your time off, and if you should ever desire to discuss aspects of your work with a group of appreciative seventh graders, I'm advancing an open invitation to contact me through this awesome site you have built. smiling smiley

Thanks for everything, rest assured you've built up some pretty good karma!

-CB

I dont know what to say ...

02/16/09 11:29 PM

Trent,

Another "thanks" post added to the mountain here.

I thought it was the beginning of a new chapter when you got rid of the contract, launched this connection-oriented website, and started using bit torrent for your official releases. It's been just 15 months or so, during which time you put out two albums and a massive tour in Americas. Everything was so awesomely amazing.

As a fan from Broken/Fixed era (and a listener from PHM album), I would like to 1) thank you and everyone involved with Nine Inch Nails, 2) say I can wait for four or five years for NIN's next chapter (as we actually did before With Teeth), and 3) thank you again for everything.

I hope the northern side of the Pacific Rim will be included in this year's "across the globe" shows of Nine Inch Nails. Thanks again for your shows here in the years 2000, 2005 and 2007. We'll never forget to sing the unstoppable "don't you" when you are here next time, I'm sure. grinning smiley

I was having a really good week. And now... I am completely confused and lost. I will hope, and hope, and hope, you come close enough to New Mexico so that I don't go completely broke from having to travel.
Trent, whatever you will, you will. You make some of the best music out there.
I can and will wait, forever if necessary, of the day I hear you have a new album coming out.
And if this is a hoax, or some sort of trick, you are cruel.
But, I can forgive you, and I will always love and admire you.
Best of luck to you!! I wish you happiness!!

02/16/09 11:31 PM

I just can't express how these (f*****g bad) news make me sad. I was only able to see two of your shows in Berlin. But there will be (hopefully) one more to add. Or better two ones (with teeth tour!). Anyway... It is even harder to express how your music and personality influenced/inspired me. I never go out without my mp3-player and I think I don't have to mention who wrote the f*****g major part of the songs on it. I'm so greatful of being a member of the large (and damn awsome) NIN community. And I'm still not givng up hope, that this is not going to be the very last to hear from you. THANK YOU!

S.P. (*bows down before the one he admires... and leaves...*)

I'll be damn. Trent & Co have finally decided to take a much needed break after this tour. It's about fucking time!! These guys need to RELAX, REST, ENJOY THEIR DOWN TIME, SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY and work on their side projects.

They must be fucking burned out and tired. Yet they want to give us - their beloved fans - one more round.

I've been a fan for 20 years. I've seen NIN (as have many fans) go through many things over the years. As I look back, the ONE thing I appreciate the most: TR conquered his demons. The demons did not kill him. This is what makes me LOVE NIN even more. I can't imagine if something had ever happened to TR back in the day (due to his demons). NIN would have cease to exist.

With that, we have been so lucky to have the beautiful music of NIN that has touched our souls. The 5 year wait "The Fragile" does suck...but it's fucking worth it. He has spoiled us over the last several years by working his ass off. He's been working NON STOP - along with the other guys and crew. Let them take a break.

I can't see TR stop making music. Music is in his blood. Music is in his soul. And he knows his music is in our souls.

So much for paying off some of my credit cards this year. I'm ready to rack up some American Airline miles. Can't wait to see the US tour dates!!!!! This is going to be one hell of a year!!!!

Now I'm babbling.......just let Trent & Co take the fucking break they need. I've scrolled through some of the pages and I'm embarrassed by some of the reactions. But whatever. Freedom of speech, I guess. Just a poor way of using it. My heart ached as I read his note. But I'm not freaking the fuck out. Do I need to overnight some of my leftover Xanax to some peeps? They are 2 years old...not sure if they are still effective. LOL!!!

02/16/09 11:34 PM

This news is obviously something I didn't want to hear but I can totally understand your choice. You have been doing this for 20+ years now (more if you consider the other stuff you worked on before NIN). While I am sad that NIN will be disappearing for awhile I hope you continue to influence the world in whatever you choose to do. You are a creative genius and the world would sorely miss that.

Your music has given me hope when I had none, strength when I couldn't go on, and goosebumps that I will never get from anywhere else smiling smiley. Thank you Trent and Co. Your work over the past 20 years has been amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

02/16/09 11:35 PM

Wait who's Trent Rasner and why are people going nuts and killing kittens?

02/16/09 11:38 PM

I am really extremely depressed about the whole thing but lets be honest Mr.reznor needs a well deserved break but i can only hope this is not the end of NIN. They're music has gotten me through so much and it is the most unique, beautiful, poetic, and amazing music out there, i could not imagine music without Nine Inch Nails. They are the only band willing to say fuck you! to the industry. Thanks for not selling out and i hope to see you Trent on a couple of these upcoming tour dates please consider playing the Fillmore auditorium in Denver, Colorado or somewhere close to or in El Paso Texas. you are the most amazing person in music and i hope you continue showing your talents.
