Please dont leave me now...your too much apart of my life...of my generation...of my feelings....

In Trent we Trust.

02/21/09 4:01 AM

Thanks for the tunes.

02/21/09 4:02 AM

unfortunatly i wasnt able to make it to the lights in the sky shows, with great great dissapointment, to hear that the one thing that keeps me sane in this world gone to shit is going to stop for awhile, i suppose we all have to deal with it, and hope that Trent comes back with some kick ass new stuff to show us all why NIN was the pioneer of industrial rock.

02/21/09 4:07 AM

I looked at Tour dates 2009, but there aren't Tour dates in Europe. I want to ask if NIN will play in Europe, prefably Prag? (Central Europe) I hope...Thank you Trent

02/21/09 4:45 AM

This can't be the end. We need NIN now more than ever I think, given the current music climate. We'll all be left with Britney Spears and Fall Out Boy. I guess all good things must come to end, I just always hoped NIN wouldn't be one of those good things that would end. Trent you definitely deserve a break and I wish you the best. I seriously hope this is just a break though, and not truly the end.

02/21/09 5:22 AM

Well, time for a break ? I understand Reznor and really think that he has made the right decision. Why ?

First, everything that needed to be done has been done. Just take a look at :

- how many albums have been released, especially in the past years...;
- how many tours and dates have been done since the beginning (and most of these implied really much more thant what you only need to play music).

But audience hungry for more. Even if I understand this, I would like to remind that... that the more you eat, the more you want to eat. Is it hunger, habits, dependence? ;o)

Going further, try to consider all that have been done since Reznor left traditional music industry. We've got here one ( and maybe "the" ) of the most efficient new model in musical diffusion ever created. But all of this requires a lot of time and still more energy. You just can't put more hours in a day than the defining 24 ones. And when the experience comes to reach the point where you can't go further whithout a clear market revolution, all you can do is wait for changes that do not only regard your activities : economic prudence from partners that crashes great projects, customers habits which take a long time to change, ... So for a undetermined period, you just do anything exciting but only... wait.

Anf the comes the internet. That's ok, and this website uses all that's possible to use. For instance, there are so many videos that no one will ever be able to watch them all. And NIN's audience is not the last to permanently search for more or produce stuff. We got videos, hidden websites, remixes, artworks, pictures, papers, buzz facts, community, RSS feeds, facebook, blablabla... and maybe the only man able to compete with Renor in such a communication proven tool is Barack Obama. But... once again, can Trent spend all his days on it, creating waves, labyrinths, in a web 2.0 that seems happy with it's own content today ? Surely not, and new approaches for the web will also take time to appear...

For any compulsive artist, waiting means nothing but stop. Stopping for a while, getting closer to own inspirations, giving a chance to emergency or self-pleasure in creation and less elaborated or more spontaneous performances. That's exactly what he says, and I totally endorse it.

Welcome back to you Mister Reznor ! ;o)

Trent, I just saw your show in Brisbane, Australia. First time ever seeing NIN after all these years of waiting. I loved it. It wasn't there at all in the begining, was it, then you stopped at one point and said things were getting disconnected and that you wanted to stop going through the motions and just play the things you loved. After that, everything was on fire. Someone in the crowd yelled out 'we won't let you fall Trent!'. I hope you heard. I hope you know we all feel like that. Whatever is going on, we love you. Whatever happens, you have been there for countless people who felt they had nothing. You have saved countless lives. Whatever happens, thank you. Thank you for giving us everthing you had.

Hey Trent i want to share a story with you. I was, untill recently, a captain for a major airline in the US. (i know live and fly in Dubai) I was walking of my plane one day, the last person off, and an elderly lady maybe around 60, was walking rather slow off the jetway in front of me. If you have ever seen a pilots flight bag, especially in the US, they are ussually decorated (much to the company's dismay) with stickers or art that sort of expresses the pilots personality, while still remaining semi professional in our uniform. As i walked pass the lady, she spoke in a raspy voice, "excuse me sir are you the captain?" I replied " Yes mam, is there anything i can help you with?" She pointed down at my flight bag (which has a single white NIN sticker on it) and stated: "Any captain that listens to Nine Inch Nails, can be my captain..." I was floored... speechless...

I know with everyone posting on here what your legacy of music has brought to people, and i know that you take what we have said to heart.

But i wanted to share this story with you, to this day i still remember this elderly lady, whom besides being my passenger, shared something with me that i hold close to my heart.

Im not saying goodbye because your music will live on in some form or another, and i hope, maybe one day, when im 70 or 80, i can tell the captain of my flight the same thing.

Naz

Let's say it another time.

This is not goodbye. he's leaving for a while.
Understand the text before crying.

Dude!!!! That is such an awesome story!!! Whoooot!! Kudos to the elderly woman who has absolutely fantastic taste in music!! And Kudos to you for "advertising" your personality to the world in such a high profile job. WOW!!! I would have been floored also....tooo fucking cool! I like hearing storys like this.....must be the journalist/historian side of me,cuz shit like this trips my trigger. I too, am not saying goodbye....until the day my number expires, I will be listining to NIN, whether old or new. Doesn't matter. Trents music has been my therapy, motivation and inspiration for 20 outta the 34 little years I have been on this planet. An escape from my reality at times when I couldnt physically escape. The mind can be such a wonderful playground when you need to run. lol~ Anyways, we all have storys and its my humble opinion that more people, like yourself, need to share them because they are fascinating~ I am sooo excited to see what this next year holds....I am a big fan of Janes also and think its a "gucken freat" idea for the bands to collaborate together...whatever the case may be....i hope to make it to a show thats somewhat close to the state of Wyoming. I dont mind a roadtrip at all, just want to get there~ wherever "there" will be!! Kudos to you Puckeater 1 for the great story!! And to Trent....damn dude, you are an amazing man and I hope to see you "there" too~ I would really enjoy buying you an icy cold beverage, tea, coffee, water, one of these days.smoking smiley

I'd like to think we're never too old for good music. Bring back Nails when you're ready. We'll wait. In the meantime, enjoy another kind of life.

While he has enjoyed certain parts of this brave new world, he’d like the next NIN album to be “a more thoughtful, contemplative work” – when he finds the time.

“Just because it feels like the right thing, I don’t wanna put out records every four or five months,” he says. “It was fun to do and I may do that again, but at the moment I feel I’d like to take my time; I don’t mean two years, but have a minute to sit and really think about things.”

All the while, at 43 years old, Reznor finds his list of must-dos just keeps getting longer, not shorter.

“Yeah, I’ve noticed that .?.?. I’ll get to them,” he says.

02/21/09 11:22 AM

Hi Trent. I've never had much luck with music in my life. I'm 24 years old today and throughout my entire youth I hated music. I hated it mainly because I was raised in a Christian home with parents who tried to force Christian music of all kinds down my throat. I can't stand that kind of music mainly because I can't relate to it 95% of the time. I didn't start getting into music until I turned 17 which was not that long ago. I went through short phases with various bands (Korn, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, Mudvayne, Metallica, etc.) mainly rock and metal. I started noticing that the more straightforward and plain and simple the music was, the less appealing it was to me.

I got a job a few years ago working for Cocacola and this job required a lot of drive time. Let me tell you something, when your commute is an hour drive one way it really puts your music's longevity to the test. At first it was great but I soon was forced to.....turn on the radio. I only have one rock station so my options were limited but I got to hear a lot of cool stuff but I'll never forget how much I HATED The Hand That Feeds when I first heard it. With Teeth had just came out and they were running that single about every fifth song. After hearing that song three more times that day, the DJ finally said, "And that was the brand new song The Hand That Feeds by Nine Inch Nails!" I went home that night and found myself unable to get that song out of my head. I looked you up on iTunes and it was then that I realized that I had heard some of your other songs before in passing.

Since that time, I have purchased all of your major releases and some of your other offerings as well. If anyone in this thread hasn't looked into the album "Still" you really should. I've loaded over 200 versions of your music into my iPod (including NIN Remixes from this site of course) and about two months ago it hit me. Nine Inch Nails had become my favorite band. Sorry to bore you with all the little details but I wanted to lay this all out to tell you something. Your music withstands the test of time. I really like your music because it is NOT straightforward and mainstream. Some of your songs are enjoyable because the can have several different meanings. I think that's why my friends don't like your music. The tell me, "I can't hear what he's saying through all the static. " or,"I don't understand what he's singing about." or the classic, "He's the guy that sings that song that goes I wanna fuck you like an animal! Yeah that's his only good song." My friends just don't get you because they don't have an imagination. They need someone like Nickelback to spell it all out for them so they can feel smart because they understand it all. To me, that's ok because everyone's different and that's exactly why we have Nine Inch Nails.

I was upset at first when I read your goodbye post. I thought,"Damn! I finally find my favorite band just in time to witness their last breath." After a while though I realized that you as a person can only do so much. I hope your time away helps you find new inspiration and determination. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for all you've given me.

Sincerely,

Anthony Shuemake

TR posted, "Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year.... Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye."

Ok, so let me get this straight. You spent a couple of years building a new network of fans (by introducing great and relevant music), not to mention, creating one of the most successful and interactive bands of all time to “wave goodbye”?

Sounds like bouts of needing a muse. The recession and bankruptcy of our country isn’t relevant to you?

Ok, that was harsh. I’m sorry.

However, I do understand that doing anything albeit a show or highly intense profession day after day can leave one exhausted. So, I applaud your cause for a break…everybody needs one.

At the same time, instead of “waving goodbye” – why not just lessen your jammed-pack stressful schedule? You don’t have to do a performance every night! That’s crazy!

Instead think about doing some more web-based performances, that’ll give you the down time you need. Boy, I sound selfish (truly). Ok, I’m going to stop my rant now.

Honestly, thank you for the time and effort you devoted to your fans and most of all towards music. It has greatly affected my individual notions of art and expression. I have greatly appreciated your challenge towards redefining what is music and lyrical composition. It was an amazing experience to see LITS and the production that integrated technology and music in a whole different aesthetic.

I wish you much success in your new journey and I wish you marvelous shows while “waving goodbye”.

Sincerely,

DeepBreath
