Does it still feel damn good to be a gangster?

04/07/09 11:19 PM

Besides your career that you have passionately dedicated most of your life, what are some things that bring you true joy?

Can you share a funny backstage story with us/inside joke?

If you were one of the main characters on LOST, who would you want to be?

04/07/09 10:20 PM

I had a question in my mind for a long long time...

In all your career: there is a moment when you don't want to know anything about people? I mean that if there was a time when you just don't believe in people, a moment when you look around, see the world, all the shit that happens, you don't see the good things, you just think: "we are all fucked, it doesn't make sense anymore", like a moment when you almost gave it all up, of all the hatred off your work at the begining, it always had a little hope to change things.

Following the line: do you believe in people now?, do you believe more in president's power?, do you think that people needs a president for change their minds, or they can "wake up" for themselfs?

04/07/09 11:20 PM

What has been your craziest fan experience?

04/07/09 10:20 PM

I've been wondering about this forever,

1. Why did you decide to call each new release a "Halo"?

and

2. How important to your new business model is increased interaction with the fans?

3. Do you find this increased interaction stressful? Do you think that you've "pulled back
the curtain" and are revealing too much?

1. The Still album had deconstructed and new pieces of music that showcased a "softer" side to NIN. Do you have any interest in creating another album like Still in the future?

2. Did you have any central theme or concept you were aiming for when you were creating the Slip? In other words, what is the "story" of the Slip?

3. What is a genre or type of music you haven't done yet in NIN that you would like to?

1. What Movies/Music have you been watching/listening to recently?

2. A few years back you remixed a Peter Gabriel track, would you ever consider working with him again?

3. I've recently submerged myself into Anime, which at first can seem a bit geeky, but underneath there's some real brilliant stuff(Ghost In The Shell, NGE, and Cowboy Bebop). I was wondering if you're a fan of Anime and what your favorite show/movie was.

1. In the past as well as recently your music has been used in many films as well as trailers(to breathtaking effect I might add)would you be open to the idea of producing another movie Soundtrack,or perhaps maybe even scoring one?
2.Or has Hollywood also become too homogenized?

I love Danny Elfman but he should not have a monopoly on Tim Burton films.....grinning smiley

any possible chance a remix moderator can get backstage and get autographs from all the band memebers involved on the nin/ja tour?

1). Why Haven't You Released Any Of The Songs Multi-Track Files In A GrageBand Format Since Year Zero? Is It Too Much Work Than The .Wavs?

2). Have You Watched The New Series Of Knight Rider? If So, Did You Like It?

04/07/09 10:30 PM

Thanks for doing this Q & A over here too.

1. What do you thing of the pricing structure of Josh Freese's solo album? He obviously got the idea from NIN's packages, but took it one step ahead. Would you ever do something like that and call fans or go out with them?

2. Some of your songs contain the phrase "Nothing can stop me now". If there is something that can stop you, what is it? And would you stop because of the fear for the unknown or because you know your limits?

3. Why haven't you ever performed And All That Could Have Been live? Since the Q&A will be recorded, could you sing the chorus for us? That would make so many people happy.

Thanks, hope to see you in Greece SOON.

9/22/09 will mark the tenth anniversary of The Fragile. Are there any plans to commemorate the event like you did with The Downward Spiral in 2004, or is it too much of a hassle/pain in the ass to even bother with it since it would involve working with Interscope?

You've admitted that you're a pretty big fan of Lost and there were rumors that you were allowed to visit the set at one point in the last year or two. Do you have any theories on what the hell is going on with the Island and what exactly Jacob is and where he's from?

You've also admitted on Twitter that Kevin Rose from Digg is becoming someone that you'd like to associate with. Is there anything that you could think of working on with him that could be internet-related? Also, would an appearance on Diggnation be out of the question? I'm asking this for selfish reasons because I'd love to see a conversation between you and Alex Albrecht.

If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

How are your Greyhounds doing? Planning on getting any more pets while NIN is on hiatus?

04/07/09 10:35 PM

1. If you had to listen to one album for the rest of your life what would it be?

2. Why did you ask people on twitter to recommend songs for NIN to cover?

3. What do you think of Mike Patton?

Forget what you're listening to and watching, I want to know what you've been reading lately. And in connection to that, is there any one book/story/author that is your absolute (or maybe not absolute, but highly important/influential) favorite?

04/07/09 10:39 PM

Would you consider releasing, officially or surreptitiously, live recordings from previous tours going back to 1989?

A sort of "NIN Live Classics" series, if you will.

04/07/09 10:42 PM

Wow this is great, thanks to everyone who got it set up. God help me I can't think of any serious questions that I don't think someone else will be able to ask better. So hopefully some lighter, tongue-in-cheek things are okay:

1. Are there any concerns about pirates disturbing the NINJA tour?

2. Please rank - Marry, shag, throw of a cliff: Rob Sheridan, Josh Freese, and Saul Williams

3. Most recent song you heard that made you go "Whoa...who the hell is that?" (Good or bad reaction)

04/07/09 10:43 PM

Ok I'll bite

What was your thought process in creating The Slip? Did you go in wanting to create a specific feel and vibe or was it like Ghosts where you just went in with no specific agenda?

You had first joined Twitter & rarely used it until recently. Any particular reason why you suddenly began to use it more frequently?

How has the transition been been to playing more instruments on stage for recent shows? Did you find a comfortable groove?

Thanks for your time & for everything else

1) what do you think of live puscifer?
2) any thoughts of collaborating with them down the road?

04/07/09 10:46 PM

Hello, I'm new, I mainly post on ets but this looks nice

1. You have stated that for this tour, you'll be chaging the setlists night to night. Is there any chance for the release of official bootlegs like Pearl Jam does? If so, what would be your strategy of distribution?

2. Your concert here in Chile was by far, the greatest live music experience that I've ever had. Now that NIN is entering a hiatus, will you do some shows on south america later this year?

3. Your music, especially The Fragile, Still and Ghosts has a very cinematical feeling. I'm aware that some of the Still music was for Mark Romanek's One hour photo. Would you like to work as a score composer? Which filmmakers would you like to work with?

SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH, IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ON IMPROVING THE QUESTION, LET KE KNOW =)

04/07/09 11:46 PM

Trent, changing the world sounds like a good plan. I've thought of so many ways to do it; journalism, and documentary. Have you thought of going in that direction. A lot of people really care about what you say and think. I thought the doc video you did for PETA was enlightening. Would you like to be a spokesperson for any other cause?

I'm learning HTML & CSS so that I can create my own web pages. Most folks feel it's OK to just use a program like Dreamweaver. Do you have any thoughts about this? What do you recommend?

I really enjoyed videotaping your show last year. It gave lots of people pleasure to view over and over. Is it possible that we may do this again for this tour specifically at Shoreline?smiling smiley

04/07/09 10:48 PM

Was The Slip someway connected to Year zero? There was a lot of speculation about it with the AIR flag in the Letting You artwork. And what was the meaning of the red line?

Name a few "big" bands/artists (Metallica, Radiohead, The Prodigy... globally known bands or artists) that you would like to produce (I hope that you produce a Jane's Addiction full album after the NINJA Tour btw).

Also, do you have plans to "get a life" during the time that you'll not tour? I mean, do you see yourself married with children before it is too late?spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

When Robin rejoined NIN, was there a time either during rehearsals (or on stage) while playing a song that you guys performed before when he was in the band, that conjured up certain memories, good or bad? If so, which song and why?

04/07/09 10:51 PM

With all the work you do perfecting the audio of your albums, what do you think vinyl brings that other mediums can't?

Would you prefer an album release to, say, a 24/96 one?

04/07/09 10:52 PM

So here it goes... three questions:

1.) most likely a frequent question, but with the news regarding "nine inch nails" going away for a bit, does this mean as a musician you too will be taking a break? Or is this just a departure from NIn and a shift to Trent Reznor. I recall in a recent interview you expressed your desire on doing more piano work, could something more acoustic come from this?

2.) following your departure from Marilyn Manson, the details as to why you two stopped working together appear to have always been shady. With his new album coming out in the next couple months has the thought of collaborating again ever crossed your mind? Or is the fact his focus is completely different from yours enough to not care?

3.) As you have matured obviously your music has matured with you, and going back to my first question, is there a possibility to see you take a more acoustic direction, or less heavy direction with your music, and if so how long do you see yourself creating music? Like most art forms it's something you can do all your life, do you see it the same way?

Thank you. (and check your inbox still winking smiley)

This is very cool, I really enjoyed watching the digg interview btw. Here are mine:

1. A while ago in interviews you said that a Year Zero 2 had it's place somewhere in the future. You said that you knew how it ended, and you intend on completing the story. Can you tell us, without giving too much away, if you have had any thoughts on this? Is it still possible at some time?

2. What would you think of doing another album in the vein of Still? Another album in that acoustic format would blow many fan's minds out of their heads, as it is a treasure amongst many of us. As far as I can tell, the most requested "Stillified" song is In This Twilight. tongue sticking out smiley

3. What direction do you see Nine Inch Nails taking, musically? Year Zero was very electronic, Ghosts was very experimental and new in it's blend of very raw/unheard of musical sounds. Do you think that the sound of your music is changing, and if so, how do you see it progressing?

04/07/09 10:52 PM

1. Could you please play Sanctified on this tour?

2. What do you think of the singer Bjork?

Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/08/2009 09:05PM by DanteSephiroth.

04/07/09 10:53 PM

- has anyone in the band or personnel ever brought up the idea of "tour beards"? if so, why didn't you do it? if not, you should do it.

- do you still play or even own a saxophone? if you do, would you ever consider doing a sax-solo rendition of a NIN song, just for shits & giggles? tongue sticking out smiley

- if you and Bruce Willis got into a fight, who would win? follow-up your answer by challenging him the next time you meet; should he decline, you will be considered the winner.

MOD EDIT: Three questions at the most, please.

1. It is well known that many of the previous and current members of NIN have been in/are in or creating their own bands/music (don't count Josh in this as he has played on everything since 1837), of these what are some of the stand outs to you?

2. We all know what punk was back in the day but in this day and age what does punk mean to you? Does it even exist anymore?

3. I remember reading a post on the net a while back somewhere about an old effects pedal you bought in a junk shop or something similar that you supposedly paid something like $10 for and went on to using it heavily in the studio or for live shows. What pedals these days get your ears to prick up a bit more than usual?

04/07/09 11:54 PM

Long question (sorry) and a bit 'sci fi' but bare with me....

1. The launch of the new iphone app. may seem to some, nothing more than an engaging, fun elaboration of the kinds of networks already established here and with other sites where people can instantaniously see what others are doing, thinking, feeling. Yet the potential of this kind of locative interaction over the entire globe also creates fantastic agency for the exchange of information that is significant or even urgent in nature.
Have you considered, given the increasingly unstable world we have created that taking locative interaction matrixes to their logical conclusion may have far reaching potential in terms of creating a stable, supportive network that could grow and encompass more than just a fan based culture/community and ultimately create a robust real-time information exchange that elegantly circumvents conventional 'news media' the way you have helped circumvent the 'music industry'?
2. are we the good Borg? smiling smiley
