I've seen NIN a few times. All times were amazingly amazing, but Trent will age eventually.

If I were him, I'd probably move to an island with tons of security and retire in peace.

Some time in the future I am sure that Trent will stop making music and he will retire, however that time is not now. Trent stated ( in a previous interview ) that he needs to take maybe a year or two off from touring because working on tour constantly started to make him feel he was overworked. He needs to enjoy music because music is one of those things that has replaced his drug addiction ( "I want to do whatever feels good" ).

Trent Stated ( in a previous interview ) that he may produce an album once every four months again in the future but not any time soon. Trent also stated that he cannot stop making music, and that he would love to just sit in a studio and write songs all day, but he does not have the time with his growing agenda and his tour schedule.

Be patient my fellow fans, Trent will be back and he is not going anywhere for a long time.

I completely agree.

Anyway we'll just have to wait and see. Either way it will certainly be interesting in seeing whatever goals he does choose to pursue with his career and as long he is happy in his work and life, that is what matters more than anything smiling smiley.

Trent deserves to settle down and enjoy life with his soon-to-be wife after all he's accomplished these last 20 years.

At LEAST a break.

If NIN comes back, I won't protest. But if he decides it's over I'm understanding.

However as it's been said again and again I HIGHLY doubt this is the last we'll hear from Trent. NIN or not he'll be around.

05/03/09 3:41 PM

My Interior NIN fan hopes that's only a "Break" or some time off. . .but as a person I think that 20 years of intense, revolutionary and dramatic music creation, mind- blowing, and live-playing process may be more than enough for any person, yes, even TR.

I don't know if he wants to stop now that he has all this creative freedom and has really nothing to prove. . but maybe he just does or he has some personal issues to work out. . .

Anyway, I just hope he takes the decision that would make him happy, he just deserves it after everything his music has done for me. . .

Good luck TR!

I think the man just needs a break. He's getting married, the man needs time to start a family. He might still get back to it after a while, but even if he doesn't, we have a buttload of stuff to enjoy, and the precious memories of these last few years of righteous, sober, buff Trent.

It is kind of cruel that he would be so forward about it, though. I mean, really, "Wave Goodbye"? Ouch.

05/03/09 5:35 PM

Maybe NIN will have an end, but TR will never stop doing what he loves =)

05/03/09 5:39 PM

I can't help but get teary eyed seeing the 1989-2009. Reminds me of a tombstone. And now Trent is getting married, he's trying to get NIN to every part of the world, it makes sense that this could be a finale. I fucking hate typing this.

05/03/09 6:12 PM

Well you know what? I don't think it's the end. When I was younger I always used to see that ad for Cher's Farewell Tour (No, I don't like Cher). That annoyed the shit outta me and I asked my mom when Cher was ever gonna stop that damn thing. I didn't understand, of course, that that was the name of the tour and that she wasn't going away. or did she? I dunno, but yeah you get my point.

So no, I don't think this is the absolute end for NIN. The guy needs a break and he's got some pretty big things happening in his life right now.

05/03/09 7:19 PM

This seeming end to NIN for now does kinda make me ponder some stuff...

I often wondered if Trent/NIN would eventually become like those REALLY old guys that you see singing in telethons on PBS when you visited your grandma as a kid. They sing some song from the 50's that you are vaguely aware of because you think you heard it on an AM radio station one time, and of course your grandma says "They were big stars back in my day. And that was when songs were good, not like this stuff you kids listen to today!"

Or am I the only one who has had that experience? Ha.

Is that the ultimate fate of TR? I choose to believe that his fate is a little more like that of Johnny Cash. I think young TR always had something valid to say musically, so it stands to reason that older TR will have a resurgence.

In either course, I'm going to see the band for possibly the last time Saturday. I'll always cherish the CD's and DVD's - and the shows I went to.

Maybe it won't be the end. I hope.

05/03/09 9:10 PM

On a much more idiotic note:

It's all about the ARG! The aliens came (The Warning), then they chilled out for a while (Lights in the Sky), and now they're about to peace out (Wave Goodbye). Sneaky little critters!

05/03/09 9:11 PM

where's all this "trent is getting married" stuff coming from? how the hell did i miss that one?

05/03/09 9:12 PM

if you just take a step back for a second, this all makes a lot of sense.
its been 20 years since pretty hate machine, and the slip was such a giant step forward for the record industry. it would be very smart for reznor to retire from NIN for good.
as sad as it is, do you really want nine inch nails to turn into another rolling stones?
i would love to see trent pull a danny elfman and do film scores, or produce more albums like niggy tardust.

great artists constantly push themselves, and maybe nine inch nails is holding trent back from creating something new, or, dare i say... better?

I totally agree dude. It's time for NIN to go bye bye.Trents getting married soon. He's not the SAME person he was 5,10,20 years ago. He's not a miserable, pissed off with the world junkie/addict.He's happy. It's time for trent to invent a new band. And take his music in a different direction.Theres a time for everything under the sun-Ecclesiastes 3:1.
A time to make NIN disappear-die-.

Trent's not going away. There's a YouTube interview from December 2008 where he explains that after this tour they'll be going away for a while, but when asked what he's going away to be doing, he says he has a number of things he wants to get finished which he's has on the back-burner, including the Year Zero TV show. He then says he'll maybe get started on another record.

I doubt between now and then he's changed his mind and decided to retire.

"Getting things finished" (even when they involve music) != being Nine Inch Nails. Not necessarily, in any case.

(On an unrelated note, can I just say that the "1989-2009" image is creepy as fuck when you were born then?)

I really feel like this is the end. Feels sad. That "1989-2009" at the end of the tour page seems so final. I hope not, I would like to see and experience NIN live again one day. Maybe it's like an author finishing writing one book, closes it, then starts working on another book. In the meantime, all NIN personnel (not just the guys on stage, but all the "behind the scenes" people as well), take care, have fun on this world tour, travel safely.

And by the way, I find this thread a bit overdramatic. I believe we'll get a new album in a few years.

Or Trent will surprise us on May 8th with some brand new material, fresh for the new tour!!

*rests happily in my dream world*

Or, maybe he'll just leave NIN to rest for a while and take some time out. The guys been making and playing music for 20 years flat.
This isn't about us, it's about him. He obviously wants to relax and embrace a life outside of the industry. Let him.

Exactly- i was thinking this the other day- would be awesome for TR to do movie scores and such. A perfect way to continue on in the biz- and not be stuck in something like NIN. That was great for 20 years- its time to move on. I was upset to hear that at first , if it was poss the end( or a break, whatever you want to call it) People's goals change as they get older ( i should know) and if you dont move on , you dont grow. To have new goals and accomplishments is a great feeling.I wish TR the best on his new "break"

Well Blink 182 did all this "We're leaving" stuff and look who comes back this year.

05/04/09 1:21 PM

In the Digg interview, Reznor stated that NIN is going away for a while (in regard to advertisments on the site). For a while - Reznor has plans, there is a masterplan here clearly and this certainly isn't the end of NIN. It's possibly the end of this period of NIN... but not the end of Nine Inch Nails as an entity to music by any means!
