if you just take a step back for a second, this all makes a lot of sense.
its been 20 years since pretty hate machine, and the slip was such a giant step forward for the record industry. it would be very smart for reznor to retire from NIN for good.
as sad as it is, do you really want nine inch nails to turn into another rolling stones?
i would love to see trent pull a danny elfman and do film scores, or produce more albums like niggy tardust.

great artists constantly push themselves, and maybe nine inch nails is holding trent back from creating something new, or, dare i say... better?

I disagree. The Slip was the start of something new, an album released completely for free... but he can't introduce this method and then give up! It's a working progress, and I'm sure Reznor will be there pursuing this.

At the end of the day, NIN is Trent's creation. Even if this is the end, what if he finds himself in the studio a couple of years from now... he has the power, the commerical support and ability to recreate it with no problem. Those who love creating music never stop.

Also another reason for NIN to end soon is this.

Wow this could be real since most of the fake sites like Reznor's Edge are gone.

Seeing that logo actually made me cry... =,(
It's only been 4 years for me, but in those 4 years, I've grown so attached, you have no idea.
Knowing Trent, he has something BIG up his sleeve...
I guess some of this fan reaction comes from the fact that for over 10 years, he needed 5 years or more to create an album, and now, this slew of 4 albums in 4 years is unbelievable for us.
Trent, you deserve a break. But PLEASE give us a sign that the heart of NIN is still beating.

If Trent ends NIN without coming to Brazil again, he can really go fuck himself for good.

EDIT: Yes, that is harsh, and yes, I am still angry.

The music must go on!

If this is the end, all I can say is, I'll be going through NIN withdrawals for a very, very long time.

Man. Today is a fucking bummer.

nin isn't over. it/he'll be back when it's time. us old farts remember waiting up to 5 years in the 90's for... fucking anything from nin to drop... you've all been superspoiled recently... time to get used to a long break or two in between releases like the rest of us had to do grinning smiley

It's not Trent's fault, dude. What, do you think he's got some kind of personal thing against letting you see a show?

Quoting "NIN PR" (whoever the hell that was):

"The cancellations were our fault."

And we still don't know why.

trent has mentioned before, the idea of letting nine inch nails sink into the mud. whatever happens, i seriously doubt the man would ever stop making music. i am sure there would be another band or trent avenue we could all enjoy. he may just be tired of the sound and format of nin and maybe wants to make music that's totally different. doesn't mean it will be worse. he will never turn into some kind of lame ass nickelback sell out. have faith. i can't think of any other artist who has a relationship with their fans the way trent has with us. he loves us as much as we love him. he won't leave us high and dry.

NIN is not over, far from it. Why would he say there would likely be more ghost albums, or make the apple iphone app, etc. ??? They're just some obvious examples, the man himself in an interview he just needed a break and that NIN isn't over, he just wants to do other things that he's wanted to and hasn't had the time for.

He mentioned a few things he wanted to do, so lets see how they go. But, i could put bet's that NIN is not over!

He wants a break, he is human, he has other goals in life than just doing NIN, as most of you's would understand lol. Let him rest up, and bring out a killer new NIN album when he's ready. Agreed? smiling bouncing smiley

Well, now that we know why NIN is probably coming to a close..idk..this seems sudden and like lame to me. I've been a fan, listening to NIN everyday almost, for 20 years. Was planning to rock out to NIN for at least another 10 man. I am slightly disappointed and telling myself..wtf? Is nin.com just going to fade away? I mean a break is def cool but to end NIN altogether?..if that is the case. Seems to me like it's so sudden, it disappoints me a bit. Will he stay in contact with this site and his loyal fans? Or is that just it? He's outta here? This is kinda abrupt and lame. I hope he leaves us with a nice goodbye present..lol. I am disappointed. This sucks totally. The tic prices too, some people cannot afford to go and wave goodbye.

k, i am done with my lame ass venting..ugh.

Sorry..I am just a fan..lol..I just don't want the good times to end. Can ya blame me?

I dunno. I'm not even sure I care. I'm building a house, AND I'm gonna try and get knocked up later this year or early next year anyways, so I'll probably be too busy to care about whether NIN is "dead" or not (which it may or may not be, it's kind of TR's business). But I say good for him, whatever his future "avenue" of expression may be. Maybe he'll just get laid a whole lot or have a couple kids or take up olympic lifting or some shit like that. Like I say, GOOD FOR HIM.

Edited to say: Oh snap! Am I the only person who thinks that second logo looks like a headstone?! Rutt-Ro!! lolz

the way i see it, trent isn't an idiot. he's just invested a buttload of money into the iphone app and i can't see him doing that just to utilize for a few months and then have it die a wasted death.

also, i believe trent creates music not because he can, but because he must, and for that reason, i'm confident that we won't have to survive for long without new material of some sort, be it in film, new projects or baby artist nurturing.

I'm surprised no one has acknowledged that "Wave goodbye" is a lyric from "Now I'm Nothing" (the song that opened NIN's sets last time they played with Jane's).

or… what about Soft Cell's "say hello, wave goodbye"? trent did do a cover of Memorabilia…

This is a completely retarded, impossible, and pointless idea for me to bring up; but wouldn't it be cool if they all got on-stage and said "We have a confession. There has been no band for the last _____ amount of time and we are ROBOTS!! And we shall play this music inexhaustively and forever until even the apocalypse cannot stop this musical act that is like the freaky-deaky animatronic-Abe-Lincoln-thingy Disneyland ride."

And then the robots would compulsively play music until cops came around and said "Hey you! Whattya doin with the music so loud! derderder..."

And the robotic Trent would say "BITE!! KILL!! FUCK!!" And then they'd have the cops or stagehands take off the stiff robots but they'd keep on playing until there was this hard industrial-metal sounding "99 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL!!" in the truck taking back those robots and they'd go "55 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL!! FUCK!!! FUCK YOU!! KILL!!! GAVE UP TRYIN TO FIGURE IT OUT!!"

That just came out of my imagination right now. (I had a lot of mental/imagination fiber today. drinking smiley )
