Album Recommendation

Hi all,

So I recently got exposed to NiN by getting The Slip, never really listed to NiN or Trent before. I quite enjoyed this album and wondering if anyone can recommend the next album I should get.

Browsing iTunes and listening through the top tracks/albums etc

I quite like the sound of The Day the World Went Away smiling smiley

Any recommendations and tips is appreciated.

Thanks

I say get Pretty Hate Machine next, if you can grab everything at once do it and have yourself a NIN fest to catch up.

hmmm id probably go with year zero if the slip was the first one u got into

Honestly, it's a preference.
What do you want?

Pretty Hate Machine- Good 80's Industrial

Broken- Heavy, very metal/Industrial

The Downward Spiral- Very critically acclaimed, but maybe not a good starter because it's not instantly accessible.

The Fragile- My personal favorite. Also contains "The Day the World Went Away" Although it's lengthy at 23 tracks, but still very recommended.

With Teeth- Sounds a lot like The Slip. Very accessible, I'm sure you'd like this one, but not really his best work.

Year Zero- Noisy electronic music. Like an industrial upgrade to With Teeth's sound. Not extremely accessible, but not too "out there" either.

Ghosts I-IV- 36-track Instrumental album. Very good, but probably not the best thing to start with, unless you're into ambient works (like Corona Radiata from The Slip)

I'd go with The Fragile for a good, diverse NIN dose.

If you're looking for something sort of similar to The Slip you should probably go with Year Zero or With Teeth. Although "The Fragile" would be a good choice too if you're not too bothered about how long it is.

yeah, i'd suggest the fragile. it's a very lengthy album, but very well worth the time spent on listening. it was the second album i listened to, i love it. after that, the downward spiral or year zero.

THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL

BEFORE YOU CONCENTRATE ON ALBUMS

Hurry and buy a ticket to NIN show nearest you. This is his last tour and it's going to be very special. You can get albums anytime. This is a time you need to cherish.

Well I'd say just get what you can next time you go to a music store. Every album of his is great, and if you love the slip you are going to love everything else that man has to offer. So yeah, just any album you run into buy, and well any DVD the same, great live performances.

I agree with devclasof2012rox you definitely need to get a ticket to his next show. I remember I just got into NiN as my brother and sister were enjoying themselves at the concert...yeah 2 days later I realized just how great this band was. So yeah definetly gonna catch them in tampa.

For me, I would go with Year Zero or With Teeth, and then Fragile. All of the albums are great and you'll definitely find some merit with everyone of them. Once you get a feel for those, try working into Broken or The Downward Spiral, as those are quite a bit heavier than The Slip.

As some have said, With Teeth is the closest to the Slip you'll get, but there are "better" choices like The Downward Spiral and The Fragile.

You're going to have to get them all, basically. Get The Downward Spiral next.

Also, you will love NIN live. Seeing them live was what catapaulted them to being one of my 2 favorite bands. Do not miss out.

find live recordings from the LITS tour, its a great mix of well performed songs from across the spectrum.

HI dude's i'm new to NIN, but they are so cool

05/10/09 8:40 PM

TDS, definitely. It's what I ended up starting with, because all the songs a friend sent me were from it.

Ruiner, Closer, Heresy, Piggy, Mr. Self Destruct, Hurt, the title track, I Do Not Want This, The Becoming...God, there's so many good tracks.

Buy that shit and listen to it until you know every word.

Well For me When I started Listening To NIne Inch Nails I got The Fragile Then after I got Pretty Hate Machine Then It Was Downward Spiral and The rest of The Albums From there and I've listened to every one too even had some of Them on Repeat And or Continuous play.....so with All of that being said I think you should really get pretty hate machine then get the singles if you can if not get broken and from there get The Downward spiral and go on from there....you might even like more than one album It all Depends on how the experience works for you.

But The most important thing Is what you get out of it from the songs and the albums Itself
Get The albums and Have Fun And While you have A chance see Nine Inch Nails live I'm saying this because this will be the LAST Time In a while that Trent will be putting together a Tour In a long while so go and see the show while you can or forever hold your peace
get the albums see NIN live and Have Fun !!! smiling smiley
