I have to disagree. After all, we didn't donate for the credit, but to save #ERIC's life and to send out a signal.

Besides, Veronica was on there to talk about her brother and her being very emotional might have found it hard to recall all the right things to say. I don't think she was trying to leave TR, NiN, Jane's Addiction, Tony Hawk, etc out of it.

They did show the site, at least.

As an after thought: Juliet's question to me seemed more rethorical, as though she was saying "How could any regular Joe ever come up with that kind of money?", so in that respect "I don't know", sounds like the right answer to me winking smiley

Nice job Trent. You've really accomplished something with this effort, and you've provided a model for other philanthropic causes and communities to follow. This is an excellent example of our broken health care system

-BUT-

If anyone on here thinks for one second that the newly proposed "ObamaCare" or universal health care (government takeover) is going fix problems like this, you are sadly mistaken. Take a look at the UK healthcare system. Tell me how thats workin' out for em'. If people think healthcare is expensive now, just wait until its free. The waiting time for Eric will double should we have universal healthcare (unless you know someone working for government). Its called healthcare rationing.

You just have to ask youself a simple question. Would you rather make choices about your healthcare provider, doctor, treatment, etc... OR a Washington DC beauracrat? Someone who is not a doctor and has not been trained in the medical field.

Just something to think about

Just a question for anyone who knows...What is Street Sweeper Social Club doing for this? Tony Hawk gave some boards, Janes will be backstage and nin is nin. Is Mr. Morello too cool for this? Is the "band" too busy sounding like RATM and One Day As a Lion? I want to be wrong but for a cause this big the ideals Street Sweeper proclaim are just verbal shit but no action at all...

@sodakracka: I guess it depends on what you know and are used to. But I haven't heard any British people complaining about the healthcare system. And I think a lot of people who perfer slightly higher taxes over having to let a loved one die because they can't afford paying for the medical treatments. confused smiley

The British system's not about politicians deciding what you get. It provides free basic medical care for all who need it, which means that part of the taxes paid goes to funding the health care system. Nothing wrong with that, really.

It's about everyone chipping in to make sure everyone is provided for.

Your logic is failed. Even if a given individual had to wait longer for an organ transplant, thousands of lives would be saved by simple medicines and procedures that most take for granted. For some antibiotics is nothing, and inexpensive product that they could afford any day of the week. But for thousands who can't afford it, it's a life saving medicine. There are tons of medicines and procedures that DO NOT have a waiting period at all. Some healthcare is better than NO healthcare. Therefore if thousands of people could be helped, SAVED, then isn't it worth the effort of establishing a universal healthcare plan?

06/11/09 11:24 AM

This is amazing. Not that I am to judge the politics of the US, as I am from Norway, but I dont get why you (US) are so afraid of some social security "nets" for the people. A little higher taxes should profit the whole society if it can improve peoples health... Also, I dont get why healthcare are so fucking expensive. Guess the big health"care" companies like to earn a lot on peoples despair.
However, this is a great consequence of a free society. That is the fact that people like you (NIN, fans, Tony Hawk og Jane`s) can prove that you see other meanings in this existence than money! Good job.

Wake up and look at what is happening in the UK and Canada!! Seriously go look!

In a socialized health care system, Washington bureaucrats would have the ultimate decision over every health care decision and going to the doctor could resemble a trip to the DMV. Socialized systems stay afloat by rationing care and letting people die before their time. In the UK, patients who are diagnosed with cancer sometimes have to wait a year before their first chemotherapy treatment. Americans deserve a better approach for universal health care access, and should learn from the many FAILED attempts at socialized healthcare.

There is no question whatsoever that our current health care system is fundamentally broken and is badly in need of reform. No question. We have skyrocketing costs, and the rising insurance premiums required to pay for them, present the main obstacle to making sure that everyone in America has access to high-quality health care.

WHY is this happening? These crazy price increases are due to the lack of competition in the system! If patients actually had the choice and if health providers and insurance companies had to compete for patients, then medical fees and insurance premiums would decrease! For example, computers are twice as fast and half as expensive every year. What makes America great is the power of individual choice and innovation. Why shouldn’t our health care system reflect our core principles of freedom and choice?

Socialized, or nationalized, medicine/health care has been a gargantuan failure everywhere it has been implemented. Thinking OUR government is smarter than all the others who have failed is both arrogant and naive. Have we already forgotten the blundering messes Congress has made in just the past few weeks, such as the AIG bailout bonuses and trillion-dollar pork-ridden bills? And my health and your health were not part of those disasters (yet). Medicare has been an economic nightmare of waste, fraud, abuse, and inefficiencies to the tune of billions of dollars. Why would universal health care, run by our government, be presumed to be implemented better?

Private enterprise works. It inspires competition and innovation. Socialization does the opposite. Why work harder, create more, spend more time, and give better service when the slackers will benefit identically? Where is the incentive to cut costs and implement time-efficient methods if the government is funding the whole thing like a sugar daddy?

06/11/09 1:49 PM

Having to wait for medicine beats never being able to get any because the cost is too high. Yes, sometimes you have to wait, but you do get the treatment you need.

Private enterprises can charge whatever they want, because they're just businesses, probably with stock holders. And since business people only care about profit, they'll find some way to keep the prices high. Why, in some branches the supposed 'competition' even makes secret agreements to make sure the prices stay at the 'right level'.

Privatizing companies may work for some areas, but I don't think something so important as health care should be handed to executives who are only looking for ways to make their flowcharts look better every month so they can please the stock holders.

The people who do the actual work in, say, hospitals etc, love to make people better just as much as people would like to be treated. Else they wouldn't even be in that profession. It's the businessmen that put them under pressure to work faster and more 'efficiëntly' that make it so that they have to start cutting corners to meet the demands of their employers.

Now, if in a tax-funded health care system, the institutions that get the best results and provide the best care got extra funding to reward good initiatives? Something like that, anyway...

Do YOU work in the medical field? I'm a Canadian and an RN. Yes people have to wait for medical care but they DO GET IT. Regardless how much money they have. Here is one thing about the waits too....lets say someone as sick as Eric needed the transplant he would immidiately be put in hospital and on the list in Canada. It took YOUR healthcare system to wait till he had the money. If you are critically ill you will get the care you need quick. Have you even been to the UK or Canada and seen one on one how the system works? It doesn't sound like you have...if you need stitches ya you might have to wait a while to get them because there are people who have been in MVAs or have GSWs that need to be seen first. I have been to the states and your wait times aren't all that different from ours. Stop trying to argue about something you really know nothing about. Unless, like me, you work on the frontlines and have been to each of these countries, which I have, just stop.

I am impressed how much you changed in the past 20 Years. You always made great music but your atitude before was pretty much fuck the world. And, now you are doing great things with your talent. I am so glad you were able to help Eric. And, hopefully people will gain more knowledge about the need of organ transplants. You always surprise me Trent.

cleardawn

That really is a tear of joy to see that people do care! The health care system does suck. My father died 4 years ago from heart complications. He needed a major surgery -because he had been on disability for quite some time and could not afford insurance, we did not have enough money to pay for his surgery. He ended up on life support so my brothers & I decided to let him go so he would not suffer the evils of the almighty $$$ DOLLARS. We all worked full time jobs to help pay, but could not make enough before it was too late. My efforts could not save my father, but I am happy to see that people do have the compassion to help this man in particular.hot smiley

We are showing how strong of a community we are,

Does anyone know what is the distribution of the donation, i think it would be interesting to know whats the strongest boddy of donation if the Packages or people that donated a bit less than that.

I went to comcast center show, i was amazed as the line of donators (packages donators, not the small amount donators), was really big, so it made me wonder about how many of us donated small amounts. I bet we are alot as well. (i hope so).

So would be a nice statistic to show.

I actually just signed up as a member for this website, fortunatly at a good time. It really sickens me how our health system is ran. EVERYONE deserves proper treatment no matter how much money they have or who they are.
It's really awesome though how people can come together like this for someone in need. I'd personally like to thank everyone who has helped, even though the only knowledge I have about anyone is on this site. It makes me feel that with hope and people like you, someday our health systems will get better.
My question is, where and how exactly do I send a donation? I've only seen how to sent the senator a letter (which I am most certainly going to do), however I'm not sure exactly how to donate. Can someone please let me know?

I'm extremely healthy, and extremely grateful for the luxury.

I took my mother with me for a routine blood work, a few years ago. I later had to ask my doctor why our results were apparently switched. She needed a thyroid test, but I had results for one, and she didn't. His reply? "Well, we just won't do any on YOU at ALL next time---how about that? THEN they won't be switched."
---WTF???
Of course he's no longer my doctor. And of course there were no WITNESSES to that incident.

Uh... who was bitching about Trent's reference to the "uncaring" health care system--?smiling smiley Are ya KIDDING? I can't knock every single person in the field--of course not. Some are undoubtedly fighting the vailant fight, banging their head on a wall... smiling smiley But the system, and MANY of the members, are borderline EVIL.

Personally, I'm looking into herbal medicine... but I think that's partially afforded me by the "luxury" of being healthy to begin with. smiling smiley Good luck, Mr. Cruz!! I'm thrilled to contribute what I can.

@waltergtab: Two things smiling smiley

1) Turn off your Caps Lock XD

2) I don't believe Trent's going to stop making music. The Wave Goodbye tour (from what I gather) will just be the last tour, for now... Trent's got too many great ideas for other projects to just all up quit.

He's just going to take it easy, spend time with the dogs, get married, maybe have some kids... But I doubt very much he can stay away from work for very long winking smiley

He's just awesome like that...

Holy shit

06/13/09 9:55 AM

I was drunk, very drunk and upset that I miss the show in Charlotte NC, My old lady would not let me go. So I was doing some drunk typing.

06/13/09 12:24 PM

I gotta say once more that I dont get why this is so damn expensive over there. We do also have problems with getting enough donors here in Norway, but my aunt had to go trough an operation where she replaced half of her heart. Healthcare is free here, she only had to pay an individual share of around 30 US dollars:/

Best wishes for Eric
