I applaud Trent's efforts to keep scalping to a minimum. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop those people from grabbing as many tickets as they can and then instantly putting them on eBay or Stubhub or Craigslist. The two ticket limit, the fact that it's all will call with no picking the tickets up and then standing outside to sell them or picking them up and then handing them off to the people who bought the tickets via one of the previous mentioned scalping sites is cutting edge as usual, but it also means that for every ticket that's posted online that means that many less people at the show. I wasn't one of the lucky ones who was able to purchase a ticket yesterday. I wasn't even able to get into the site at 4:10 PM, almost an hour prior to the tickets going on sale. I will say this, though, I don't think it's fair to blame this all on nin.com or Trent Reznor, they did what they could and have tried to make this more about the fans than any band out there right now. I DO agree that the presales for each city should have been done on different nights to possibly deter from the crashes that most of us experienced, but, there still would have been hundreds of people left out in the cold. When you're one of the biggest bands in the world it's damn near impossible to please everybody. There's always going to be a lot of kinks in something that's basically beta. How many bands do you know try and do this? Yeah, about none, right? At least Trent's taken it upon himself to really push and advocate self-promotion and self-marketing (check out everything he's done since he left Interscope and the message board topic of what he would recommend if you're an up and coming band). Hopefully, bands will see how successful these presales and non-scalper friendly methods can be and work off of that. With Ticketmaster, Stubhub, LiveNation, Craigslist, and eBay pretty much forming unholy alliances to rape us of our recession penny, we need bands like NIN and individuals like Trent Reznor to help us out as much as possible, and in turn, we need to help them/him out by supporting the cause even if it doesn't directly benefit us at the time.
