you raise several interesting points. i participate rather actively in a Chilean nin community, but it's been a bit of a disheartening experience lately - not because there are trolls or anonymous bad-mouthing, but because everyone (or most everyone) is completely enthralled with this dark persona that was trent reznor years ago. and they think that the only music nin has created was from that era. then some people try to defend the reasons for which they love nin's post 2005 music, and then this shitstorm begins - people raving about how anyone that likes the entire nin catalogue is merely a yes-man, an online groupie of sorts that is obsessed with trent, and not the music.

fuck that. i love the entire catalogue, and it's not because i have a trent reznor fetish. i think it's amazing music, period.

If NIN was still producing TDS-esque music, I would've dropped out as a fan a long time ago.

I agree completely, those that ignore all the music Trent Reznor created post-TDS are missing out on some great music. I suppose that line of thought comes from those that don't like change. Some people even fight change and maybe that is where a few of the loudest forum critics come from. It is kinda sad they can't appreciate YZ or The Slip, I love those albums.

Hi , my name is "Stoutman". There is something I need to get off my chest and I don’t care who sees it. I want to start off by saying I am a former closeted, binge-substance-abuser and I suffer from extreme anxiety attacks. It wasn't my intention to "Troll" the NIN chat room but more rather to point out how lame the people running it were and that the internet-hipster demographic doesn’t speak or represent all the fans of NIN. Granted, I went too far and for that reason will never return, out of respect. It hurts me to think that I contributed to the very thing that I hated so much (eg. a violent, dumb, repressive world). I realize now the reason why I did what I did was primarily because of the problems I was experiencing in my own life at the time. By bringing these problems to other people in an internet environment it made me feel less “alone” in some regard. In retrospect it’s pretty obvious I was a monster. And that part of me needed to be put out of its misery once and for all. I’m deeply sorry for being so disruptive.

As for what happened to these apparent dumbass, overweight goth-chicks (people I was always open about never liking) who are harassing Trent on Twitter, well I think that's to be expected when participating in something as fucking meaningless and annoyingly irrelevant as Twitter (contrary to the view of the brainwashed hipster-massses). Just google how twitter was invented and the dillweeds that stole the idea of an SMS based communication network from AOL. Fuck AOL, its mass assimilation. It causes outbursts and rioting just like any other scenario when people are bunched together in thinking on the same terms. That’s why I never participated in the obvious short-lived fad known as twitter and why I never will. I have a life, why the fuck would I want to publicize what I’m doing every moment of of my life to others. I take comfort in the fact that I can “hide”. Social-networking being used in the traditional sense is fucked up in general.

It just seems pointless and hypocritical to be "Trolling" the person whom one is apparently a fan of, or in this case a plump female who wants to fuck a celebrity but never will be able to. Good job Asshole, now your hero hates you, what now? Making fun of other fans though?, well that's Kosher in my book... And this scenario is indicative as to why I think that. But really it’s a waste of time. Why try to hurt anyone? I never purposely hurt anyone in real-life in my entire life. Well I probably did a few times in Elementary school by putting gum in this one annoying girl’s hair. That not to say, I’ve always been pretty mischievous and rebellious. I only ever killed one thing and that was a Turkey-Buzzard when I was 13 years old and I cried and swore I would never do it again. (Not counting the times Ive hit ground hogs or possums with my car while drunkenly driving down the back roads in rural PA doing 80 mph at 2 AM.)

This whole thing about people harassing Trent makes me regret my previous actions in the NIN.com chat room very deeply indeed. Its a fucked up and tumultuous world we are coming up in, I guess if I want to change that there are some serious things I need to change about myself first. Since my absence at NIN.com I think those changes are headed in the right direction.

I think the reason why people want Trent to be the unbalanced, confused and sick human being he was in the 90's is because they saw something they identified with in themselves. When it became apparent he was healing, those same people no longer identified because apparently they want to continue feeling like shit and hurting everyone around them. To anyone who’s actually felt like fucking killing themselves, its nothing I would wish on anyone or condone. But the reality of the matter is Trent is an inspiration to me that people can be in a situation like that and not die or become a washed up coke-fiend without any dignity.

Im happy Trent has healed and is finally not alone. I hope someday I can reach that same goal, hopefully though, before the age of 40. I’m 23 now (24 in Oct.) And that seems a long way away…..


I wish Trent and all the NIN fans well (not "ALL" the fans actually). And having witnessing REAL LIFE racism on a daily basis, I can tell you first hand it’s about the most unfunny thing a person can experience. I think that people who never leave their computer screen sometimes forget what real life scenarios are like and how fucked up something that seems funny on a screen can in fact be a fucked-up nightmare in real life.

Maybe Lily had her own personal reasons from Fred's blog and certainly beyond to simply respond to AUF's tweets pointing out incnsistencies / bollocks etc.
All that it takes for evil to triumph is for good men /women to do nothing.

Thanks for responding to me Lily - however I have no twitter account anymore - I deleted it ages ago when a load of work colleagues found me and started following me - I found it impossible to start an account and say the stuff you want to say with the thought that someone at work was reading you!
