What is the first NIN album you bought and when?

TDS 1997ish. My older sister had PHM and I liked it (she had made me a tape copy of the CD), so I made her a copy of TDS when I got that. She like PHM more (she really really really like Ringfinger), I definitely liked TDS more (at the time, I still do, but I like PHM more than my initial impressions from all those years ago).

I think the actually physical disk I have right now is the third one I owned but I only ever paid for the first one. The music store my sister and I went to would give you a sticker to put on the outside of your CD/Casette case, and if it ever got scratched or your cassette player ate the tape, you'd bring it in and they'd give you a replacement, which was awesome. They've since gone out of business.

The Downward Spiral - At the time it was pretty much the most intense thing i had ever heard. I think i got Pretty Hate Machine next, not sure though. I only own physical copies of a few of 'em (TDS, PHM, AATCHB, Ghosts), but i have the rest digitally.

I got TDS in about `95 on vinyl which I wish I still had but it got scratched and replaced. Now I`ve got every album and get jelous of people who haven`t heard them cos they`ve got the experience to come. I always have to have a physical release or I feel like the sets not complete.

the first one i bought was the slip in 2008, then every other album shortly after. i was first introduced to NIN in 2007 but it took me a year to start fully appreciate it.

I hate to admit it but I got into NIN in 2006 and bought The Downward Spiral deluxe edition even though I remember watching the "Closer" video as a teenager. I thought that industrial music wasn't that good. It took me awhile to like TDS absorbing all of it's sounds. I then bought With Teeth and liked that one a lot more. What sold me on loving NIN was when I heard "Hurt" and I found myself crying. Since then I have gotten The Fragile and PHM and the rest of them including DVDs and live albums. I downloaded Ghosts and The Slip for me but still bought the CDs. They are my favorite band and I love Trent and his music. It has changed my life for the good.

TDS, can't remember when. I now own a physical copy of nearly every Halo.

PHM 1990, to be honest I can't remeber who had it first on cassette, I seem to remember buying around the same time I got Nothing Shocking, by Jane's Addiction, and Automatic by the Jesus and Mary Chain. I can pretty much remember where and when I got all the others. I know I was dissapointed that they didn't make it to WA for the first Lalapalooza. When I worked at a record store in 93 I swindled my manager out of a promo of Broken with the 3in disc inside.

I think the first one I bought with my own money was either the Fixed EP or the Head Like A Hole maxi-CD. It's been almost 15 years so I don't remember very well.

Not a full length album, but "Everyday is Exactly the Same." And I think I was around 15 years old. It was just after NIN came to Winnipeg for the first time.

First full length album was probably With_Teeth though, but my memory is fuzzy on that one. I have too many to keep track anymore! Haha.

The Downward Spiral....that's how me and my old best friend became best friends. We both had that in common and started sharing scars

Awithateetha the week of it's release, but I never really listened to it, Things Falling Apart was what got me into NIN.

with_teeth in '05...long story

11/06/09 4:07 PM

I think it was Broken for me. I was 19 so about four or so years-ish ago.

11/07/09 12:35 AM

The first NIN I purchased was a double whamy. I bought The Downward Spiral and Broken at the same time. I liked what I heard from Downward and wanted to check out more. I never looked back. NIN will always be my favorite band. Later on I found a tape of Pretty Hate Machine in my older sisters shit! Who knew?

Mine was PHM in 1990... I'm both old and old school lol!
Bought all the other albums pretty much on the day they came out. I remember being shocked by broken when I first played it in my studio. But grew to love it in a short space of time.

With Teeth for christmas 2005
then pretty hate machine
then broken and the downward spiral at the same time
then the fragile
many followed

I would give anything to go back to the day I bought the fragile and listened to it from the first to last track uninterrupted. Epic. I honestly didn't know what to do with myself when The Wretched came on. Blew the back of my head clean off.

I heard Closer on the radio around 2007 and heard other songs like Everyday is Exactly the Same and Only too. I never really understood what Industrial music was but after listening to those songs a couple of times on the radio I decided to go to a music store and pick up one of Nine Inch Nails' albums.

The first album I bought was Year Zero, I was with my girlfriend at the time. I plugged it into my CD player in the car and heard MADNESS with "Hyperpower!" I was thinking to myself "what the hell did I get myself into?!" My girlfriend thought I was crazy ^_^ Anyway, I gave the entire album a chance and listened to it in its entirety. Since then, I've been a devout Nine Inch Nails fan and have bought most of their albums. Simply the GREATEST music I've ever heard.

With Teeth
The Downward Spiral
AATCHB

After that i was hooked and now am a collector of the halos

My first NIN album was 'Things Falling Apart', and back then I didn't know that it was a remix album (I didn't know a lot back then). I bought it on October 13, 2006, which happened to be a Friday (ha! Friday 13th, awesome). That CD was great, I used to sit on my bed and listen to it a lot.......

edit: Then I bought 'The Downward Spiral' on April 12, 2007... That was the first major NIN album I bought..........

I think The Fragile was the first one I actually bought for myself back in 2000. I had a lot more, but they were all bought/copied for me by other people. I'm pretty close to having the full catalogue in official releases now

11/16/09 11:35 AM

yes, yes, yes. The first two albums were The Slip and Year Zero, because I bought them in the same time last year during christmas.
