Snoop said that the video Trent posted was crap, and Trent basically said he didn't understand why somebody would say something like that when it contributes nothing to the conversation. However, people then brought up Trent's comments on Chris Cornell's album, and labeled him a hypocrite. Shit started flying, people freaked out, Trent restarted the thread.

I see, cheers for that Scott. Won't pass judgement, as I have no idea what he actually said. However, people are entitled to their own opinion, that's the point of having a forum, and shouldn't feel afraid to express them. The world would be a very boring place if everyone agreed with each other all the time.

Personally, the music wasn't quite up my alley, elements of it I liked (the out of tune guitar), sounded like an updated Bauhaus in a way. A bit repetitive and one-dimensional though, didn't 'go anywhere'.

Alright, just speaking as a pretty big introvert looking at somebody who seems to be one himself, it doesn't surprise me that the thread would be restarted. Now, this is just speaking as me if I was in Trent's perspective. I like to have a certain place where I feel safe and comfortable without any negativity. For Trent, I think that a perfect place for that would be a website devoted to him and all of his work. Yes, he may make a mistake sometimes and come off to some as a hypocrite. Who doesn't do this? However, I doubt he needs to be constantly reminded of this WITHIN the social community that revolves around him and should be considered a comfortable place for him. I think I'd do the exact same if I was him, I get upset about that stuff easily too. So instead of throw negative comments at him in this thread, how about we just discuss the video? If we have any comments that we think may cause a shitstir, then just don't say them. Just because Trent has done it in the past doesn't suddenly make it alright to do whenever you can.

With that said, time to get back on topic. Is there any lucky people here actually attending the NYC shows with The Horrors later on? If so, can you film it for us? tongue sticking out smiley

EXACTLY, i cant agree with you more, true fans dont bitch about their supposide favorite artist.

wow, probably we went off-topic (mainly because of trent's reaction to a guy - snoop - who was totally on-topic) but deleting all the things we wrote... in my opinion it would have been better if mods or admins just lock or move the thread.

anyway, i think we'll all survive to this great example of democracy tongue sticking out smiley

now, getting rapidly on-topic and talking about the horrors with a sense of decorum and good manners... i don't like the video and the music, like others said earlier, is something we've been listening to sooo many times before. besides, if i want this kind of music i totally prefer my bloody valentine eheh.

Well,
before this thread is really dead i will do have "my last words" (Megadeth, 1986)
´cause i started this confusion - so i will bring it to an end. It wasn´t my intention
to bring you up this way, at least i do a second posting as a sort of apologize.
(With the rest of all the arguments it was digitally shredded, okay....)
I don´t want to discuss this till the youngest day, okay ? Peace for all of you !
With a grin in my mind and a bit of sense for black humor i remembered some lines
that Roger Waters (Pink Floyd, 1979) wrote and sung.

"So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show
To feel that warm thrill of confusion,
That space cadet glow.
I've got some bad news for you sunshine,
Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel
And they sent us along as a surrogate band
We're gonna find out where you folks really stand.

Are there any queers in the theater tonight?
Get them up against the wall!
There's one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me,
Get him up against the wall!
That one looks Jewish!
And that one's a coon!
Who let all of this riff-raff into the room?
There's one smoking a joint,
And another with spots!
If I had my way,
I'd have all of you shot!"

If you don´t share that sense of humor, feel free to bann me now.

it's his place. he can do what he wants with it. BUT cutting off your nose to spite your face is rarely a pretty sight. the previous thread didn't unhappen just because it was deleted, it's likely to start an even more "derailed" debate and even more potential for "misreading". be it here or elsewhere. Ultimately, he doesn't have to justify his actions to anybody but himself if that is how he feels this community works. same goes for the rest of us. which leaves us (and this place) where?
Back on topic - I'm sure The Horrors will please a lot of people. enjoy the show!

rile yourselves up for a while.

Until about 2 minutes ago, when someone quoted the post to me, I had thought he said "ride yourselves for a while" and thought it was much funnier that way. You know, people all up in a ... lather... over The Drama.

So the video: I'm not a big fan yet. Maybe I don't have enough "creative vision"; that video and song didn't seem that exciting to me. I am reminded of The Human League for some reason, and that stopped being a positive allusion in 1985. I think it's the guy's voice. Whatever.

But, I didn't think Street Sweeper was all that either upon hearing the teaser download tracks. And I totally and completely changed my mind after seeing them live. Maybe these guys will be the same. I have only heard the one song so far.

So, now everyone go ride yourselves for a while. Let me know how it goes! Please wash up before reporting back.

Trent-

Could you possibly provide a audio-only download of "Mirror's Image"? I have two reasons for asking:

1) I have had access to a computer that is too old to either run or download the video since Friday, so I would appreciate being able to at least hear it, and...

2) From some of the comments posted on this and the deleted earlier thread (remember-I haven't seen the video), it seems as if some are bothered by the visuals. Maybe this is something like the situation with some songs whose videos can hurt or help the song...I recall that a while back the song "Champagne Supernova" was released by Oasis, and I thought it was good, but when I saw the video, it made the song Great, but when the song "Laid" by James was released, and I loved it, but the video diminished the song. So maybe an audio only version would help more people consider the music alone on it's own merit.

"Laid" by James [www.youtube.com]

Thank you. I Really appreciate that you are always trying to get us to listen to New artists we may otherwise not even have considered listening to!!!grinning smiley

I wish I could say this band is worth getting riled up over..... I'm not too impressed but they are certainly better than "The Bug", the special olympics of DJ/Hip Hop that somehow managed to open a few NIN shows last year.

Sometimes I wonder if the opening acts are chosen just to torment the fans.

08/16/09 9:47 AM

I gave The Horrors a listen and I liked. Seems like I would file this music under my "get stuff done" classification. This music made me want to organize some shit in my house and make some lists.

Forgot to say too, that I don't understand why people think that the only kind of music that TR should listen to, or anyone for that matter, is all noisy-noisy bang-bang, brooding type shit. I like all different types and genres and I'd have to say I enjoy that diversity in my music collection. I don't typically like country but if TR advocated a country band I wouldn't go all balls on fire angry about it. I'd shrug my shoulders and move along. I certainly wouldn't feel the need to hate on the band.

'The Bug' was AWFUL. Jesus. A screaming hobo would have been a better performance.

In other words, I don't think comparing 'The Horrors' with that is really much of a contest.

The way I look at it if Trent likes a band and is tryng to promote it who gives a shit what you think about the Horrors. If the thread got negative right away and he deleted it who gives a shit. This isn't CNN news fascism and if your cryng about this get a life no really- because your lookin too much into this and your not being a fan your being a whiny obsessive little bitch. Why would he want a big ranting negative thread promoting his band. If you don't like the Horrors shut the hell up. When I went watched Crystal Castles and it sent my mushroom trip downward spiral to audible hell torture I didn't lose faith or whine about Trent's taste because who is to judge it's in the eye of the beholder.

Personally I enjoy the Horrors reminds me of joy division/killers/mgmt I like the dark spooky synth sound. I think they would sound interesting live.
Mew on the other hand the super ultra happy disco sound would be a rather different opening vibe I can't picture that for some reason.

Constructive Criticism:

The Green Screen stuff gave me a headache, way too busy.

Music stuff: Not bad, has a vaguely Beatles-esque feel to it. could be because they're british, but the whole video has a Sgt Pepper feel, except the Beatles Sgt Pepper vids weren't that busy visually. Busy yes, not that busy enough to give a headache.

My conclusion: A little guidance, they can develop their own unique sound. They really spark me as a new-version-Beatles band, and should really strive to find their own unique sound.

Now, aren't you glad I didn't go all Yahtzee on this review?

As my brother in law said to the guitar salesman when he was picking up his new guitar, in response to a fancy pedal that made the guitar SOUND like other artists.

"I don't want to sound like other guitarists, I want to sound like me"

08/16/09 10:52 AM

wow! all of this (happening again, despite a whole thread already got deleted) because someone said the horrors' music is crap?

we all should take a big breath before turning an objectively rude (but still allowed... right?) comment into such a big deal.

talking about the horrors... is trent going to do some collaboration with them? i mean, he doesn't host (and collects users' e-mails) their stuff just for fun or general friendship. don't wanna sound nasty but it'd be a good thing for them to be "helped" from trent tongue sticking out smiley

Let's talk about the music.
They sound pretty good. The video kind of reminds me of The Beatles' imagery.

The Horrors - the name is quite frightening- lol!

(I must laugh in every post because I laugh a lot in real life.)

on closer inspection, I think that comment can be put down to the over-exuberance of youth. or the triumph of enthusiasm over experience. either way, it keeps the kettle boiling.

There's a lot of different opinions around here, personally if i dont like something , i decline to comment rather than posting negative crap! but that's only my opinion and im sure ill get some negative crap thrown back at me winking smiley

The Horrors are a excellent band , there album "Primary Colours," has so far got to be the album of the year for me, it just gets better and better at every play!smiling smiley

I shared the video on my Facebook - I've heard of the Killers but never heard them - I always thought it was an emo screamo band - I was way off - Turns out The Killers will be in my neck of the woods in the near future... so thanks for introducing me. The guitar is weird in the song .. haven't figured it out yet (which is damn cool)
