You mean I can't still use my "Bush is the Antichrist" bumper sticker and T-shirt anymore?
Is it too early to blame everything on Obama yet?
Bush had to work very hard to get as unpopular as be became. He had to screw up the economy, squander an unprecedented moment of national unity by invading the wrong country under provably false pretenses, make torture, rendition, and domestic spying part of our "Greatest Country in the World" make-up, get re-elected on a platform of fear, let Katrina drown New Orleans, decry any criticism as traitorous, gut the Justice and State and Labor departments, alienate our allies and engage in dangerous brinksmanship with our enemies, and turn a blind eye to the failures of his own philosophy.
Obama has been in office for less then a year, and at the moment, he is STILL our best chance for righting at least some of our overflowing pile of wrongs. He's the most gifted politician to rise in decades, but not since FDR has a president had to deal with more problems right out of the gate, and FDR didn't have our skittish, hyper-partisan legislature, cable/radio loudmouth fear-mongers, the trillion-dollar special interest lobbies and their professional staff expertly rattling the public.
I'm willing to give our current President the benefit of the doubt for now. The euphoric honeymoon may be over, but that had to happen eventually anyway. Lets have something real and concrete to blame him for before we abandon the last guy who might just be able to fix things.
The whole US situation is going to head in a way that it has over here in the UK. Tony Blair left the uk in such a shit mess that theres no possible way Gordon Brown will be able to clean it all up. Because of that, Brown will never be considered a good PM, even though in reality, he's doing as good a job that anyone else could to try and get the UK back on its feet.
The same thing will apply to Bush/Obama. Do you really think Obama can clean up all that mess Bush had made? He'll be lucky if he can get through half of the problems causes by Bush before he is forced to leave office.
