What if, just what if, the other thread WASN'T deleted because people weren't properly differential to TR's new favorite group. What if he actually thinks we ARE entitled to our opinions, so long as we keep it civil, and the other thread was deleted for some OTHER reason?

Just throwing that out there.

Um, okay, let´s work on this. What´s in your mind ? Give us some interesting conspiracy theories.eye popping smiley

they should drop the "s" from the end; then it would be an appropriate name.

Nah. I love conspiracy theories, but in this case there's just not enough evidence to speculate on.

I'm just saying, everyone is so quick to blame Trent's personal proclivities. Maybe the ACTUAL reason the thread was deleted was because of a site glitch, or a spam attack, or some other very mundane reason?

You've got to allow that sometimes things will happen on a website this large and this technically complex that just aren't anyone's fault: not ours, not Trent's, not Rob's, not anybody's.

A thread vanishing MIGHT be a juicy, defensive reaction against some of his own fans not falling instantly, deeply in love with the newest band he's decided to take under his wing.

Or it might be as boring as a technical problem. Which would be a huge let-down for those who have been getting all worked up about it for eight pages.

I just have to point out, not everything is about us. It's not always something we did.

LOL. So true. As disappointed as some of us may be, I don't think Trent's life revolves around this site and his fans. Call me crazy, just me thinking out loud here.

oh man the ending of that video is SO interesting, with the moon (feminity, reflective creativity...) at the center of the swirling yin-yang, and then the swirling takes on the look of the eye of Horus, with the moon waxing and waning it looks like an eye that's closing.
COOL.
now i should read the lyrics

08/19/09 7:50 PM

The music video was cool, but the song was ehh... rather hear March Of the Pigs! :-)

08/19/09 8:50 PM

I'd like to give The Horrors a big Hug, at least they are a group thats not trying to be mainstream and jump on the emo- let's make music so we can be rich $$$ overnight bull%$#t kinda music bandwagon. They have their own sound and they could give a rats butt what people think... they march to their own drummer. You gotta givem props for that :-)

For you to take time out your day to give a person a response/compliment I say thank you.

I just checked out the video from the horrors, I heard of them a couple of months ago on a college radio station, it didnt move my soul. As for the video had a good concept, but that concept was lost in translation.

My first impression of the video and music was lets take elements of the past psychdelics, the velvet underground, timmy leary and andy warhol and smash it mash it up.....could of been better sonically and visually.

The way you painted that image of the video, is so good that i had to write something. You have a way with words and perception...kudos to you =(^.~)=

I think if your an artist of any sort and you claim not to care what people think, you are lying.

If you really don't care what anyone thinks of you or your art, why show it to anyone? Why perform it for people? Why not just keep it in it's box, far away from the eyes you don't care about, and keep it to yourself forever?

in a totally related note: it's your avatar that will be giving me Horrors tonight.

I still hate you Gooey Gus. I still hate you...

Why does anyone show their art to the world? They show it because of course they want it to be seen;oh and to get a lot of chicks or guys...whatever floats their boat. if you have a gift or talent why hide it? Im sure Picasso and Leonardo DaVinci wanted the world to see their art but they still didnt care what people thought they did it their way! Well as Forest Gump infamously says " That's all I got to say about that!"

P.S Do you remember Gooey Gus from "Ghost Writer"?

Anyway!

The Horrors remind me of how The Beatles looked, sort of. Too bad their name is so, scarry. Does everything have to sound so negative around here.

Remember?! That face was responsible for almost 85% of my childhood nightmares!

And Picasso and Da Vinci DID care what people thought. They cared very much. They had to; their livelihoods depended on people buying their work.

You can be an original without being apathetic. People who's art comes undiluted, right from the heart (as the best art often does) often tend to be deeply sensitive about it. You put something of yourself out there, and it's rejected, that can be very hard for an artist.

if everyone LOVES your stuff and you're swimming in cash and praise, THEN you can claim not to care what anyone thinks. Once the foot is on the other shoe, it's a bit harder to maintain your frosty attitude towards approval.

You must mean very early Beatles.

A bit different from later Beatles.

Ok, not by much. But the Beatles are far from the only group to dress in dapper suits for rocking out.

08/20/09 4:02 PM

I quite liked it, sounds very 80s to me... Perhaps cause of the synth sounds and really wet vocals plus the singing style. Reminds me a little of The Smiths & The Cure.

They look like what people generally call typical modern indie boys to me lol, shaggy hair and wearing suits in their music videos while staring at their shoes.

It's the rule of picking an indie band name, pick a word, bonus points if it doesn't completely make grammatical sense and then add the at the front. tongue sticking out smiley

Right, nobody said that good music has to come from apathy. I don't know where someone thinks being an asshole makes you play an instrument any better or what? Apathy might contribute to focus and lack of distraction somewhere possibly. Sometimes oversensitivity clouds logic, and without balance and self control, the extremes of being too sensitive or having cold unemotional logic can be a problem. Some people think you can get away with just being a logical asshole with numbers and empty, articulate words on the opposite end, but in some way logic is painted by sensory primarily, so you have to have a balanced perception or you miss an important point about how logic and emotions reciprocate and how it makes up human observation, and how people individually discover their own opinions and test them, without depending on conclusions predisposed in society.

Keep in mind that an artist has to have faith in their own work. It doesn't have to be rejection every time criticism comes up. It could be what pushes them in a more productive direction or a direction they're ultimately happier with. It's not black and white.

I actually think good music CAN'T come from apathy. People who say "well I like it, and that's all that matters," are lying, because if it WAS all that mattered, they wouldn't be playing their music for themselves in their rooms, not for bars or clubs or stadiums full of people.

Something drives them to share their creations with the world.

Repeating some of what I was saying, that doesn't work in absolute terms (between apathy and oversensitivity, there is a lot of range), and you need balance between having emotions present and not, to have effectiveness in interacting. Take selective listening for example. Background noise in a room, like a buzzing air conditioning unit, it is eventually out of your immediate attention, even though the sound hasn't changed and no external factors have changed, and there are physical causes for that (stimuli) I'm not going to get deep into, but on this point is has to do with emotions and how they can be a distraction when attempting to concentrate. Just saying if your definition of "good music" is an effective-technical standard or if it's a character standard you can get into a contrast with it, but some people try to balance contrasts.

....and still, you might be the most emotionally charged person in the world, it doesn't mean you can play an instrument.

08/21/09 2:55 PM

is it safe to come out?

can i say that i really dont like this band without some big statement just that i dont like it?

is there anymore jesus crackers?

On the same coin, you can be the most technically skilled player in the world, no lick your fingers can't make, but if you have no emotion, your sound will have no fire.

In a way I think for someone really to "not care" about who likes their art, their art has to mean nothing to them.

I have to agree. I knew a musician who could play anything on any instrument, but it was dead and soulless (sp?).
