Survey from NIN

As for the live song favorite. I voted The Way out is Through. I saw it live only once, and I would give anything to see it played live again. The videos of it, while awesome, cannot match up to really hearing it.

09/22/08 2:09 PM

I chose The Big Comedown for best live song.
It really is an awesome song to get you jumpin'.

But as others have said, there couldn't possibly be just one answer on some of these questions. More like 5.

09/22/08 2:34 PM

no email here either.sad smiley
must be issues with the internets. or summat.
anyway, a pretty useful way to get fan profiles for future merkating - who's got the unenviable job of collating the results?

hi, i answered the survey already but just so you know, Puerto Rico is missing from the location box. I thought that if you chose United States it will appear as a state like on some other surveys, etc... but it didn't. Not a big deal but maybe some other country is also missing. thanks.

PD: sorry for the bad grammar.

I have a question about the survey, hopefully admin/mods can help me out here -or if Trent's bored this afternoon he can chime in too spinning smiley sticking its tongue out:

I took it, but was at work and wasn't able to download the itunes video. If I knew that's what it would be I obviously would've waited until I got home. Soooooooo- is there any way to retrieve this video? I tried to copy & paste the link, but that = fail.

I haven't received it either but it was fun to fill out. Thanks for posting it in its entirety and including the link, Blinky.
I didn't get it either.....

Thank you for posting about it, Blinky smiling smiley

thanks to bat21 for the movie/ mp4 links, too!

I got the mail this morning, but it was sent to an old email address I just happened to be checking. Oh well. It was pretty fun.

09/22/08 3:05 PM

How come in the live video the audience isn't screaming their asses off? Or was it a rehearsal?

"favourite NIN song" was the toughest question... I (like many others on here I'm sure) have about 10 "favourites"...

09/22/08 4:23 PM

trent sounds like keith sweat in that letter. i didn't get it, but from what i've read
he..sounds..just..like..keith...sweat!!!

Anyway, I listed that as one of my last three shows too, with the caveat of "Hey! It was Free!"

For last three concerts, I put the last big three but I've been to many more smaller shows. Also wish there had been a "what CDs did you buy AND illegally download? Because I almost always do both, esp. when the group in question gives away so much free stuff.

Not sure I've been to a lot of smaller concerts since then. (Which is unusual). I filled out the survey at work and realized I don't remember anything anymore without looking at ticket stubs and the DVDs/CDs. I really don't illegally download much, as far as I know. (Mash-ups maybe?) What I'm not given to hand off to internet DJs, I get as compensation for *accidentally* finding myself spending the show selling the artists' merch, and, having a cache of Sharpies when they had none. (Musicians are notorious Sharpie thieves!)

I suspect I'm older than the target demographic for the survey anyway.

My textbook comments would've been something like:

I joked with folks on The Spiral that I wouldn't join that until classical piano tour dates got announced (ha ha). Hence, I missed a lot of NIN activity (and the bulk of the YZ game, dammit!)

I joined this "revamped" site with fairly fresh eyes. I'm still pretty impressed at the effort being made for fans, for free. Compared to how little access we had to Trent, inc. a decade ago, this is amazing.

I want to see independent musicians succeed. Glad to have someone as high profile as NIN be one of the leading experiments. Hope this survey actually helps.

the fave song question was hard for me too. i just went by fave song at the moment instead of all time to make it easier. i picked "burn".

09/22/08 3:29 PM

I did the survey and now I realize just how out of touch with technology and music I am. It was fun, though and the video at the end was very cool. I can't wait to see them in November.

09/22/08 4:08 PM

XD

'k, I didn't get the email either... Found a link in the "nin.com chat" Facebook group. :q Yay. Surveys are fun. When you can remember your last 3 dvd purchases. %P
Oh shit, Closure was on the illegal-download-stuff list? Of cooooourse. Yeah, I did download that.....and the Broken moovie...... Anyway. AWWWWWWWWWW, thanks for the vid, you didnae hafta do that... And yet, I'm off to watch it. cool smiley

I felt kind of dirty checking off all the albums I downloaded via P2P sad smiley

But I'd like to go on record saying while I've downloaded a bunch of the albums via P2P I've also purchased those albums in a physical format and just wanted a digital copy for my iPods/iPhone over the years.

09/22/08 4:44 PM

Do you think Trent is going to buy the same DVDs as we did ? :p

It's easier to pick just one song than a bunch.

On CD : Closer.
Live : The Big Come down

Well nice video ( but hey, where's Alessandro ? Oh he was filming ok ! ), can't wait to see them, it will be my first time to see Robin playing the guitar. woot! woot!

09/22/08 4:53 PM

i kinda hate that my first post in here is a rant. whatever smiling smiley

i didnt get this in the email, but i filled it out anyway...

seemed more than right to take some time for it.

best question was

What would you like to see more of from nin.com (PLEASE SELECT UP TO 3)

Alessandro Cortini.

Alessandro Cortini was actually the only answer I selected for that question! lol

Judging by the email, TRent seemed especially uppity so I rolled with it.

Worst questions for me were "favorite song" and "favorite live song."

I don't like making choices like that! There are so many different ones!

Hello ...
I just attempted to take the fun survey, typed my email, hit the wrong button & it sent in the empty survey. I can't go back to take it again... now I'm bummed. I was excited to take it for you, definitely NOT trying to cheat! Loved the video... Thank You! smiling bouncing smiley Didn't see me in there... but I guess I'll let that slide if you let me take the survey again... thumbs up

I hear ya on feeling out of touch. I am too young to feel so old school. I find out about new music mainly through artists (who's toured/collaborated with whom, influences, etc.), and I actually still wander around the record store and buy CDs.

Did anyone else wuss out on the fave song questions and leave them blank? I wanted to be helpful, but ONE song? After all these years? I tried, but the lists spooked me. I realize how silly it is to fear commitment to an anonymous survey question, but I generally dread being asked to pick favorites from any category, especially music.

09/22/08 5:45 PM

Everyone needs more Alessandro! I happily checked off that option smiling smiley

Last three CD's I purchased: With Teeth; Beck/Modern Guilt; The Slip... and before that was Fragile, Year Zero and probably a couple more Beck albums! Maybe it's time to expand my horizons, no?

Also, I got my email in the spam folder; now I have the "no-reply" address in my contacts list.

After watching the REd Rocks performance of "1000000" I have to say.... not enough Alessandro.

I see plenty of the others, but no Cocktail Cortini. sad smiley lol

... and again, same here, much sighing and near complaining ensued ... but I did pick a couple songs (only one I remember now is The Great Below, but can't remember what I picked live, maybe La Mer) but it's really rather meaningless ...

... but cheers, in any case, it was fun, and I actually felt like the survey was for a good cause!

09/22/08 7:47 PM

After taking the survey realized just how isolated I am and how little I read the 'mags' or visit the 'popular' web sites ...

BUT

I have always traditionally gotten into new music through word-of-mouth and those happened to be the ones that stuck with me the longest as well. It is because of my trust of the "word-of-mouth" method that I solicited opinions thru the link above (within the forum too smiling smiley )

-g- : pretty amused about the NIN mp3s releases listed on the survey that I have, that were ... shall we say... "ill-gotten" before getting the legit copies on cd/vinyl... eventually winking smiley

09/22/08 7:56 PM

Actual conversation in the household while filling out the survey:

from in front of the monitor posted:
a: I like "Enhanced community features" *click*, dunno about "Chat and Q&A", I like the "Photos" option *click* but I also like "Live streaming video"...

b: Well I would've gone with "Exclusive Video content" but whatever...

a: But I can only choose three...

b: Well why don't you take off "Alessandro Cortini"?

a: ...cuz I like that one... ^_^

-g- : thanks to my helper, who riled me mercilessly with my (very honest) results to query "Approximately how many hours a week do you spend on nin.com?" ... answer = 20+ hours *hangs head in shame*

09/22/08 7:01 PM

Ah man! I was taking the survey and accidently hit enter... it submitted it but I can't retake so I never even got to read all the questions damn it!
It happened when I mentioned the band PIG... my ipod also always screws up on PIG songs... I'm beginning to think Raymond Watts is cursed. sad smiley

i didnt get a survey either.. wtf? send it to me and then i'll fill it out. gotta go - prison break is on * ok found it in my spam folder , enjoyed filling it out, even though i had to admit to dwnld songs i didnt pay for. oops. for the record i do own nin cds. My fav song is head like a hole and fav live is terrible lie - i picked that even though i have like 20 other favs. I'm just a little disappointed that trent offered jeordie as an incentive to filling out the survey instead of himself. oh, well i guess being able to turn invisible is cool enough. tongue sticking out smiley

somebody needs to reset the clock.... its only 11:20 pm winking smiley
