+ and regarding the price, it's pretty evident that retailers will not hesitate to capitalize on it. I've seen the album by Josh Freese "Since 1972" stacked along with nin disks and it was stickered "New CD+DVD by NIN drummer! Low price!". Price was $20. So i don't expect even the simple (hypothetic) 3CD+DVD edition to be priced less than $50.

A+R is doing this so hopefully the cost doesn't go above (ideally this should cost less but I'm not in control of that) the deluxe Ghosts (of which I bought 2 for $75 + shipping each when it came out). Honestly these deluxe packages are overdone. The Ghosts deluxe could have fit on 1 Blu Ray (multitracks, 24/96 stereo, etc).

Overdone? Are you kidding? I have Ghosts LE and it is a thing of beauty.

Can't wait for this. The Fragile is my favorite album of all time, and anything Fragile-related definitely gets my dollar. I don't mind if they switch up the order, not because I don't love the original order, but because I'll always listen to the original album when I feel like going from beginning to end. I'll treat the re-issue as a way to enjoy the album in a different way. I just ask that they load this thing with extras, which I'm sure they will.

I don't think these songs were released under different names. I bet this is some of the material Aaron North talked about in that one interview. He mentioned there was a bunch of good stuff from the Fragile that never made it on the album.

botleysmith posted:
We also have to operate under the assumption that "Stained", "Rotation" and "Anomaly" are just tracks that were released under different titles. Think about it: everything else on those hand-written lists came out on the regular vinyl edition of the album. It must be a list of contenders for a possible running order. But there are several songs that aren't on either list. Why might that be? Let's look at each:

-The Frail (this was inspired by a remix of "The Fragile" done by Keith Hillebrandt late in the recording sessions, so it was possibly written after those lists were made)

-We're In This Together (I can't imagine why this wasn't on the lists at this point unless it didn't have lyrics yet, or was out of the running, since TR was at one point said to be fed up with how long it was taking to finish)

-Just Like You Imagined (this may not have been in contention for a similar reason, or perhaps had a different title: "Rotation" maybe?)

-No, You Don't (possibly unfinished at this point?)

-The Great Below (not considered/unfinished?)

-The Way Out Is Through (we know from a picture of the multi-track documentation from nin.com circa 1999 that this was called "Anomaly" at one point)

-Where Is Everybody? (again, probably unwritten or unfinished at this stage)

-I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally (another late addition is my guess)

-The Big Come Down (unfinished or out of consideration)

-Underneath It All (this is likely "Stained" under a different title)

-Ripe (With Decay) (unfinished or later retitled)

The only real mystery is what song "Rotation" later became. It could be one of the songs that later had lyrics added, but my money's on it being "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally" or "Ripe (With Decay)".

I posted this in the other thread. It's a BIG wishlist, but...here it is:

1. Multitrack files for every song
2. b-sides and demos
3. Trent's written retrospective on the making of The Fragile
4. A DVD containing Trent and others performing all of the songs on the album.

This would make me complete.

agreed.

03/14/10 3:15 AM

woAah!

03/14/10 5:56 AM

MILTI-TRACKS MULTI-TRACKS MULTI-TRACKS!!!!!!!!!!

And Cheese. Dont forget the cheese!

It would be cool to have a version which contained ALL fragile-era songs on it (ie...AATCHB, Deep, The New Flesh, Leaving Hope ect...)

03/14/10 11:39 AM

This is going to be so sexy.

I just hope we don't get fucked by shipping and customs to Canada again. Maybe a more simple bluray option will be there.

It cost ~$170 CDN to get the $75 USD version of ghosts, by the time it got to my doorstep. Shipping, customs, and the US->Canadian conversion of those were rape... probably wouldn't have bothered if I knew how much it was going to expand. Underestimated it, to say the least!

lol yeah, I remember that. It's DAMN good thing I'm a huge NIN fan, because those shipping exchanges were fucking ridiculous. I still got my Ghosts I-IV Deluxe though. smiling smiley

I don't know if anyone's seen this but here is what looks like a correspondence between Richard Pepper and Rob Sheridan via Twitter concerning the Fragile re-release.

Q: # @rob_sheridan are there any ridiculously vague statements you're allowed to make regarding the deluxe Fragile's status? 1:29 AM Mar 13th via Tweetie in reply to rob_sheridan

A: # @Richard_Pepper Sure: It's still VERY early in development, but so far it's looking like it's going to be a hell of a package. 2:21 AM Mar 13th via TweetDeck in reply to Richard_Pepper

Go to their respective Twitter pages to see for yerselves.

Looks like it'll be a while still before we see this monster.

i'm hoping we don't have to wait until NEXT year for this

my guess is the 11th anniversary of the fragile will see this release

03/25/10 6:54 AM

my only hope is that FedEx dont fuck about with my order like they did with Ghosts,
2 days from cali to london
A fucking month from london to nottingham
200 miles ina month my god!

03/25/10 5:59 AM

I would much rather see an amazing deluxe package in a year, than something almost amazing right now.

It'll be worth the wait.

I signed up today to post my wish-list for a dream re-release of The Fragile (love this album).

Personally I am not a fan of interviews, photo collections, video clips and the like. Heck I'm not even someone who really gets in to the atmosphere of concerts and live performances. For me, its about the music and getting my fix in the highest quality smiling smiley !

I have The Downward Spiral (DVD-A dual-disc), With Teeth (DVD-A dual-disc), Ghosts I-V (Bluray deluxe edition) and The Slip (96KHz 24bit WAVs - I happily consumed a lot of my broadband bandwidth to get it the day my internet was connected at my new house) and would love an equally high quality release of The Fragile.

If The Fragile was released as a 5.1 channel 96KHz 24bit DVD-A, TrueHD/DTS-MA or PCM release I would be so very, very happy smiling smiley !

What do other people think about this single request?

Great work Trent, I was wondering when you'd get around to doing a re-release of The Fragile. Keep up the good work!

04/17/10 1:49 AM

i think anything during this era was and still is amazing. i would love to see the b sides to "we're in this together, along with demos and/ or the songs that didn't make the cut. although i'm not a dual disc fan, I would be amazing to see two dual discs. Disc 1 front and back be original album including any tracks witheld from the final cut. disc 2 side a being bsides rarities. side b being dvd all videos including alternates and the day the world went away, still galleries and alternate artwork designs and interviews. there was so much going on during this time for reznor/nin some good some bad and this being the largest and most beautiful composition i don't think anything less would be able to really do the original justice.

Double-sided CD looks rather dull without a colour picture sad smiley Even the title of CD can be hard to read, y'know...

i can't decide if it's more likely for TR to mix the album in 5.1 or just release a DVD of the multitracks so fans can make one.

cool idea but it seems very unlikely, imo, given the statements TR has made about DualDiscs since he last released one. they're also a pile of crap, so...

He may have just been referring to songs like The New Flesh, 10 Miles High, and The Great Collapse.

I go through this a lot with NIN. I've come to the decision that I love all of them in their own way. tongue sticking out smiley However, more often than not The Fragile (in particular, the left side) comes out on top. smiling smiley

I'm hoping for:

- Multitracks
- Some sort of live video footage - rehearsal footage would be nice
- Unreleased songs for sure (hopefully songs nobody's heard)
- Incredible packaging

I really really hope remixes are kept to a minimum, unless they're anything like what the Kronos Quartet did with AVOTT.

04/19/10 12:34 PM

My only wish would be about the unreleased songs and I think that if we don't see them on this Deluxe Edition they will never come out.
(At least until Trent's alive. You know the Jimi Hendrix album....)

The AVOTT remix is my favourite NIN remix ever, if we saw some more like that it'd be awesome.

@rob_sheridan can you tell us anything new on the progress of The Fragile Ultimate reissue? We've received some questions about it.

@ninwiki Nothing new to report. Seeing a new prototype soon, but don't hold your breath, it's a long ways off.

I hope the deluxe edition will be released in September but after having read Rob's comment, I doubt it.

I guess it is for the best, but it is hard to wait...and Trent remains silent about it.

I totally agree with you, I'm sure the new packaging will be great, but what I really want is all the stuff that Trent has kept in store.

I like the idea of 10 Miles, Appendage and whatnot being with the rest of the album next to The Mark... and Please. A booklet of thoughts and artwork would also be magical.

Stuff from the website and unreleased would also be great.

And another disc that contains covers of tracks from the Fragile including Beyonce, Gaga, Cheryl Tweedy, Owl City and various others.

Well. Maybe not Owl City.

Take the vinyl version of the album, swap in Ripe (With Decay) and add Appendage to the end of Please. So things would look like this, altho might use some of the crossfaded cd versions to give a complete flow:

(borrowed from Wikipedia, cd, cassette, vinyl versions merged into the vinyl tracklisting)
No. Title Length
1. "Somewhat Damaged" (Reznor, Danny Lohner) 4:31
2. "The Day the World Went Away" 5:01
3. "The Frail" 1:54
4. "The Wretched" 5:36
5. "We're in This Together" 7:16
6. "The Fragile" 4:35
7. "Just Like You Imagined" 3:49
8. "Even Deeper" (Reznor, Lohner) 6:14
38:56

No. Title Length
1. "Pilgrimage" 3:31
2. "No, You Don't" 3:35
3. "La Mer" 5:02
4. "The Great Below" 5:17
5. "The Way Out Is Through" (Reznor, Keith Hillebrandt, Charlie Clouser) 4:17
6. "Into the Void" 4:49
7. "Where Is Everybody?" 5:40
8. "The Mark Has Been Made" 4:43
36:54

No. Title Length
1. "10 Miles High" 5:13
2. "Please(+appendage)" 6:19
3. "Starfuckers, Inc." (Reznor, Clouser) 5:00
4. "Complication" 2:30
5. "The New Flesh" 3:40
6. "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally" 4:13
7. "The Big Come Down" 4:12
8. "Underneath It All" 2:46
9. "Ripe (With Decay)" 6:34
40:27

Split things up as needed between the 2 CDs and include a 3rd cd with any extra tracks; b-sides, remixes, web exclusives, etc. Then include a DVD with everything mixed in surround, all the videos, etc.
