I'd be perfectly happy with a 5.1 mix.

I don't want to enter into too much speculation. Not because I think it's wrong (why the fuck would wishlists be wrong?), but because normally when I do speculate, I end up creating a "favorite version" in my head of what could come -- and when it turns out that it wasn't that, part of me feels bummed out.

Whatever comes is going to be mantastic.

We also have to operate under the assumption that "Stained", "Rotation" and "Anomaly" are just tracks that were released under different titles. Think about it: everything else on those hand-written lists came out on the regular vinyl edition of the album. It must be a list of contenders for a possible running order. But there are several songs that aren't on either list. Why might that be? Let's look at each:

-The Frail (this was inspired by a remix of "The Fragile" done by Keith Hillebrandt late in the recording sessions, so it was possibly written after those lists were made)

-We're In This Together (I can't imagine why this wasn't on the lists at this point unless it didn't have lyrics yet, or was out of the running, since TR was at one point said to be fed up with how long it was taking to finish)

-Just Like You Imagined (this may not have been in contention for a similar reason, or perhaps had a different title: "Rotation" maybe?)

-No, You Don't (possibly unfinished at this point?)

-The Great Below (not considered/unfinished?)

-The Way Out Is Through (we know from a picture of the multi-track documentation from nin.com circa 1999 that this was called "Anomaly" at one point)

-Where Is Everybody? (again, probably unwritten or unfinished at this stage)

-I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally (another late addition is my guess)

-The Big Come Down (unfinished or out of consideration)

-Underneath It All (this is likely "Stained" under a different title)

-Ripe (With Decay) (unfinished or later retitled)

The only real mystery is what song "Rotation" later became. It could be one of the songs that later had lyrics added, but my money's on it being "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally" or "Ripe (With Decay)".

I think I just jizzed. In my pants.

I am so excited! The Fragile is my all time favorite album, and in my opinion one of the (if not) the BEST albums ever made.

I'd love to see

1. Multi-tracks (La Mer, The Great Below, and The Day The World Went Away, would be amazing to look at inside and out.)
2. A larger booklet, or book, featuring all of the released artwork and unreleased artwork from this era. (maybe more pictures of those flowers on the back cover, simply beautiful.)
3. All b-sides, and unreleased demos, full version of Into The Void. Extended version of La Mer.
4. A DVD & CD of 5.1 surround sound mix.
** 5. Video Documentary of making The Fragile. (thanks SHIK1)**
This would be amazing, but what ever Trent does, i know will please me.
i have had to repeatedly slapped myself throughout today to see is if i was dreaming. can't wait!

We're In This Together was one of the last songs they finished on the album, if I remember correctly. They were posting notes on nin.com about recording the track as late as 6/29/99 - [theninhotline.net]

I'm not sure this was a latecomer, but I base that solely on the presence of TBCD samples in one of the remixes of I'm Afraid of Americans. I actually suspect TBCD was recorded fairly early in the process.

Maybe that's "Rotation", then.

I wonder when exactly it'll release, we could be waiting an entire year. I'd love to see how anxious some people will get.

All I want is a reservation type system where the supply can meet the demand and nip this $1000+ reselling bullcrap in the butt. I think most can decide if they want it before seeing it or by seeing a prototype. Then NIN makes one big order and can number them 5000, 10000, 20000 who knows. If it's really about giving the fans something they can enjoy and appreciate then how RARE it is shouldn't matter. Personally, I still would have bought Ghosts if it was limited to 20,000+ or not limited at all. I can imagine Trent isn't gonna want to sign all of them, but that can be left out of this set. I hope it includes Vinyl, Blu-Ray, and DVD-Audio(for my car).

Bottom Line:

Announce the set and all its contents w/ pictures of a prototype.
Take orders for 1-2 days.
Make that many and sell them to fans that are interested.

Stained, Rotation and Anomaly sound like names to Tool songs.

The perfect version of the Fragile would be minus Where Is Everybody and with Please (appendage).

That would be gorgeous.

I will buy. Anyone else wonder why Trent made the announcement via Twitter and not here on the site?
I noticed that he was online for like 20 minutes today, I thought he was typing up a big announcement. I guess not. sad smiley

Hmm, did that sound as creepy and stalker-ish to anybody else as it did to me?

I noticed that too, and thought the same thing.

I just want Trent to get the profits and rights. Not a dime for the bastards.

same here. maybe some video as well...

I know I'm probably the only one who thinks this would be cool, but I want a version of La Mer where Trent says the words in English. Don't get me wrong, I love the French reciting, I just think it'd be cool since those words are awesome.

09/22/09 6:37 PM

The Ultimate Reissue should involve me being able to call Trent and have him come over and perform it for me whenever I want

09/22/09 7:34 PM

Christ where are all the pysco nin fans with perfect recall of every interview ever given by tr when you need em'? Well anyway as I understand it I doubt you'll get demo's from the fragile era due to the fact that the whole song writing process was different to the other albums, it went into detail in a with teeth era interview which I cant find. I THINK, could be mistaken

Just like most of you, cannot wait for this release. I have been listening to The Fragile quite a bit lately and cannot believe that even after 10 years of listening to that album, I still find hidden layers of sounds/effects.

When I heard Pink Floyd's The Wall 5.1 mix, I was astonished to find so many hidden sounds in that album as well... Cannot wait for TR's version of 5.1 if he goes that route!

09/23/09 10:23 AM

Please + Appendage on cd? It would be good.

All I ask for is 5.1. I'd be perfectly content with that. Anything else is bonus.
I'm in awe that this is actually going to happen! My favorite album of all time!

Now....here's to hoping for the Ultimate Reissue of Pretty Hate Machine smiling smiley

09/23/09 1:31 PM

Appendage would just complete the Fragile as work of musical genius for me. It just makes the album so perfect in my opinion. Not to say the original isn't of course :p

09/23/09 3:30 PM

I would be happy with seriously anything. It's hard to believe he will be able to expand on this masterpiece, but it's Trent Fucking Reznor... he will.

Oh... and FYI: "Anomaly" was the working title of "The Way Out Is Though". If you look back on some of the stuff posted on nin.com during the fragile era, he posted a picture of the "The Way Out Is Through" track sheet and under title it said "Anomaly".

09/23/09 4:26 PM

I like the idea of another live performance set like what came with the slip. I'm not sure if they'd do the whole album but even a chunk of it would be ace.

Perhaps the "ultimate" is misleading and we'll all be let down, but you'd think that if the official twitter (god i hate using that word) felt the need to insert that word, AND put it in capitals, then he reissue would have something special in it on the bonus side of things that seperates it from the usual handup of old material, especially taking into consideration the last two album packages.

09/23/09 7:57 PM

I am looking forward to seeing this when it comes out. I am definately buying this when it comes out too.

09/24/09 12:15 AM

i needed a good excuse to re-buy this one. Well that and not to mention i found the left disc snaped in half under my bed. I cried, but this is great news! Cant wait to see it and listen to it

Took the words right outta my mind.

Quite frankly the best rare/unheard NIN mix that ever existed.

09/24/09 4:35 AM

I hope they take their time for this masterpiece!!!
