seasonsinthesky posted:^ or how about he releases the multitracks so everyone can "improve upon" TFA themselves?
I assume that's going to happen anyways, which isn't a bad thing.

I'd just rather the camp put something out official that perhaps they didn't have the time (yeah right) or desire to do before the era passed. As big a hard-on I've had for this sweet inevitable day, I've really been in no hurry as I've been more concerned with how much time it would take to do it right. The thing is I believe, if there were to be an extension to TFA - it would have to be now or never. I've said this before, but TFA (as good as it is) is pretty much the anti-remix. Out of 23 original album tracks, we got 6 of those reworked. With this release in surround, decent multi-tracks will happen regardless of their inclusion, and if not unleashed upon now, nobody's gonna care after the sure to be thousands of fan-made spread. Well, of course we would but.. heh
NIN remixes to me have always been engaging & to a certain effect. I just feel like TFA (+) should have been the infinite mindfuck and if that doesn't happen it's a tragedy. With the whole community's fingers in the pie I'm sure we'll end up with some damn good ones, but there will be a LOT of sifting to do. People can throw tracks together and make something sound fairly cool, especially with 'can't go wrong' source material.. but to actually design a remix as emotionally charged, thought inducing & engaging as the original isn't something the average person is going to pull off & by the time we find the gold, the beauty of TF may seem to lose it's lustre.
I'd love to be wrong, but the more I think about it the more I believe there won't be anything new included in this package. In the time they've spent to produce the proto-type, I really doubt they've had the time to do anything more than working this into surround + compiling the b-sides, unless it's been tediously worked on since TR's 1st mention of the possibility. If not, this thing could easily be 8 discs.
Whichever & whatever happens, I'll do what I normally do to preserve the music and leave the multitracks alone and wait for some good compilations. I'm sure sweet justice will prevail, we've got some awesome people in the community and some real talent. I bet people are thinking of titles for their extended remix albums now. Triple disc! 4 hours! Aw hell, I'm excited.
