Kinda surprised and kinda not for no mention of the UMG debacle with the official YouTube channel. Really, I'm sure you've already said just about all you've wanted to about the record industry already. I'm assuming that because these new videos are up on the YouTube channel that either something's been worked out or UMG only took down the videos that NIN didn't "own the rights" too-i.e. anything that was recorded while Trent was working for a record label. I didn't get a chance to check the "damage" myself-I wouldn't be surprised though if UMG had all of the videos taken down regardless of where any of the material actually came from. Of course, these live videos are also from pre-Ghosts/Slip era-again though I'm not sure if the live videos were taken down or just the music videos. In any case, I hope something has been or will be worked out. If it has been, I'm just slightly disappointed that we aren't getting any of the "juicy details" about how it all went down. lol
Moving on "new material" from Nine Inch Nails has me understandably intrigued. If I had to guess it's either going to be a new "Ghosts" release or perhaps something to do with the Year Zero TV series. I'd be really surprised if it was a new album with vocals and everything since it would possibly come with the expectation of a tour to "promote" it-or give us a chance the hear the songs performed live. Since touring is "done for awhile", I think if it was music it'd be Ghosts since instrumental music tends to not work as well live unless you've got the budget for some fancy accompanying like with LitS. If it will be something with lyrics and vocals then I'd expect it would probably be something like "Year Zero 2", created to supplement the TV miniseries if and when that happens. A final possibility could be an official DVD release containing material from the final leg of the tour-although I'm guessing these videos are basically going to be the equivalent of that
So to sum it up I'd expect it'd be one of these things:
-Ghosts V-???
-Year Zero Miniseries
-Year Zero 2 to accompany the Miniseries
-Some kind of official live DVD
It could also be none of the above and something entirely surprising.
